    Neuropsychiatry Biomarkers Investigation Internship Overview

    Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie Interns.

    With recent acquisitions, Abbvie has several programs coming into our pipeline for major depressive disorders (MDD) and Schizophrenia. The internship project will be initiated by mining publicly available datasets to identify novel biomarkers within the pathways of interest and potential new targets to pursue. Functional validation in cell line models will provide support for the subset of markers that may be used in Abbvie clinical trials for patient recruitment, stratification, or for post hoc analyses. Further, the intern will utilize samples available from current clinical trials as well as procured samples to generate proteomic and transcriptomic data to identify novel markers and to validate previous hits. This cross-functional work will be done in collaboration with the Neuroscience Discovery, Precision Medicine, and Neuroscience Clinical Development departments.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Mining public data to identify potential novel biomarkers
    • Evaluation of biomarker(s) in cell line models, potentially iPSCs
    • Omics analysis of patient samples
    • Biological interpretation of the data

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a PharmD or PhD in Molecular Biology, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry or other related field
    • Must be enrolled in university for at least one semester following the internship

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Expected graduation date between December 2025 – July 2026
    • Exposure to the neuropsychiatry disease area
    • Cell culture experience
    • Passion for translating research to drug development processes (bench to bedside)

    Salary: $58,656 - $98,000
