Strategy Leadership Program MBA Internship Description
The Corporate Business & Strategy Office (CBSO) collaborates closely with senior leaders and functions across AbbVie to drive mission-critical initiatives and pursue external innovation opportunities that will make a real difference for patients, while positioning AbbVie for sustained top-tier growth. The group consists of integrated teams focused on corporate strategy, business development and acquisitions, partnership management, search and evaluation of external innovation opportunities, and transformation initiatives.
As a Strategy Leadership Program MBA intern, you will join CBSO and work on meaningful assignments that have a real impact on our business and patients worldwide.
AbbVie’s worldwide business offers you an opportunity to work in a variety of fields. All internship assignments are different and based on business need; however, below are examples of the work that you may be involved in as part of your internship:
Perform primary research to characterize industry trends, develop strategy, and/or identify investment opportunities.
Review investment opportunities for scientific, commercial, and financial viability.
Work alongside CBSO colleagues developing deal structure, risk mitigation and negotiation strategies for a target opportunity.
Facilitate interactions with AbbVie’s strategic partners (e.g., collaboration kick-off, on-going governance).
Locations
Interns will be located at our corporate headquarters in North Chicago, Lake County, IL.
Qualifications
Must be enrolled in an accredited MBA program, preferably with an emphasis on life sciences.
Must be enrolled in an accredited MBA program the semester following your internship and graduate between December 2025 – June 2026.
At least 5 years of prior work experience required. 3-5 years of experience in pharmaceutical / biotech industry (e.g., corporate, consulting, venture capital, investment banking) preferred.
Strong life sciences background via work experience or education (e.g., PhD, MD, PharmD).
Cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher preferred.
Demonstrated leadership potential.
High learning agility and initiative.
Strong analytical skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
AbbVie strongly considers interns as candidates for their Strategy Leadership Program (SLP) after they graduate. AbbVie’s SLP is a 2-year rotational program with four separate work assignments. The rotations span a variety of functional areas such as: AbbVie Ventures, Business Development & Acquisitions, Corporate Strategy, Global Alliances, Enterprise Innovation & Transformation, and Search & Evaluation.
