    Drug Product Pilot Plant, Tech Ops Overview

    The Drug Product Pilot Plant is part of the Clinical Drug Supply organization within R&D Development Sciences. The Pilot Plant is responsible for supporting formulation development and scale up activities and for manufacturing oral dosage forms (tablets, capsules, granules, solutions) used in phase I to phase IV clinical trials. The Technical Operations (Tech Ops) team is the key support group to keep the Pilot Plant running, with responsibilities including engineering projects, manufacturing process support and troubleshooting, and calibrations and maintenance of both the equipment and the facility. The Tech Ops Intern will gain valuable experience with industry standard unit operations (such as compression, coating, blending, encapsulation) and will build understanding of what it takes to support a state-of-the-art pharmaceutical manufacturing facility.

    Key Responsibilities Include:

    • Develop tablet coating process recipes for varying batch and tablet sizes on facility coating equipment
    • Coordinate an industrial hygiene (IH) study related to a coating unit operation
    • Commission and qualify newly purchased equipment for GMP manufacturing
    • Lead an effort to focus on sustainability in the pilot plant with projects such as energy assessments for purified water generation technologies or facility air handling units
    • Create a plan for managing and organizing manufacturing equipment change parts
    • Assist, when necessary, with investigating and troubleshooting equipment and facility issues; recommend and implement solutions

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a Bachelor’s in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or other related field.
    • Expected graduation date between December 2025 to May 2026
    • Good verbal and written communication skills. Good computer knowledge and good working knowledge of MS Word, Excel
    • Ability to take initiative to handle small to medium complexity projects autonomously

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Exposure to process engineering, industrial sustainability, process/system controls, physics, unit operations, manufacturing, mechanics
