    Job Description

    The Biologics Drug Product Development group within AbbVie is a global organization responsible for developing and characterizing drug product formulations and manufacturing processes for biologic therapeutics (antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), neurotoxins, and novel biologic formats) from preclinical development through clinical proof of concept. We have an exciting opportunity available for an Associate Scientist I/II to join our team at our Bay Area site in South San Francisco, CA. This position requires an onsite presence and involves lab-based functions. Successful candidates will thrive in a collaborative lab environment.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Execute formulation composition and drug product process development studies for sterile liquids and lyophilized dosage forms
    • Manufacture drug product formulation batches for evaluating formulation stability and/or to support animal studies
    • Conduct stability studies to enable selection of formulation composition and container closure for liquid and lyophilized dosage forms for protein therapeutics
    • Conduct clinical in-use studies to guide dose solution administration
    • Analyze data, interpret results and draw conclusions from multistage experiments; note significant deviations and propose relevant new experiments
    • Use data analytics to optimize workflows, data entry, and data digitalization
    • Generate high-quality data based on sound scientific principles and document results in electronic lab notebook
    • Effectively organize and present scientific data in presentations and document studies by authoring reports that support regulatory filings.
    • Support functional technical initiatives by investigating and developing novel experimental approaches and/or technologies in the field of drug product development
    • Maintain oversight of day-to-day laboratory activities; manage inventory of raw materials and drug product packaging and manufacturing supplies; coordinate ordering, shipping, and receiving

    Qualifications

    • Degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences or equivalent
      • For Associate Scientist I: Bachelor’s degree and typically 0-3 years of experience
      • For Associate Scientist II: Bachelor’s degree and typically 3-5 years of experience or Master’s degree and typically 0-2 years of experience.
      • Individuals with a PhD need not apply.
    • Strong technical background encompassing protein chemistry and protein handling
    • Technical ability to execute and troubleshoot experiments through rational and critical thinking. Must be highly organized and detail-oriented
    • Hands-on experience with analytical techniques used for protein characterization and stability testing
    • Eagerness to learn and apply new scientific techniques
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong collaborative skills for working effectively within the team.
    • Prior experience in protein formulation development, lyophilization process development, drug delivery, or analytical functions is highly preferred.
    • Preference given to candidates with experience and strong interest in developing automated workflows for data entry and data digitalization.

    • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

    • This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive programs.

    Salary: $58,656 - $104,500
