    Job Description

    AbbVie is looking for an enthusiastic and innovative Associate Scientist II or Scientist I to join our Protein Sciences team in the Chicago area. The ideal candidate will be part of the small molecule drug discovery division and utilize their expertise in protein biochemistry to support drug discovery initiatives. They will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive forward multiple drug discovery projects.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Design, develop, and refine experiments for recombinant protein purification.
    • Apply SDS-PAGE, western blot, analytical SEC and other biophysical techniques to characterize protein reagents.
    • Offer scientific insights to address challenges related to protein solubility, purity, heterogeneity, and yield.
    • Collaborate with project partners to coordinate experiments and swiftly resolve any issues.
    • Continuously enhance process performance.
    • Prepare technical reports and documents, effectively communicating data with collaborators.
    • Work both independently and as part of a team, taking responsibility for technical outcomes and driving results.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biochemistry, biotechnology, molecular biology or related protein sciences fields.
    • 3-7 years of experience for Bachelor’s degree holders or 0-5 years for Master's degree holders.
    • Solid understanding of protein purification technologies, with experience in AKTA purification systems.
    • Previous experience in supporting protein structural biology and biophysical characterizations is advantageous.
    • Proficiency in cloning and molecular biology techniques is a plus.
    • Strong problem-solving and communication abilities.
    • Excellent record-keeping skills and the capacity to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
