    Job Description

    It is the primary responsibility of this position to source and procure the chemical and organic compounds or components, reagents, intermediates, biologic materials, etc. that R&D chemists and other scientists, primarily in Discovery, required to perform work in direct support of AbbVie R&D pipeline initiatives. Incumbent is also responsible for ensuring effective operational execution and leading operational projects focused on driving efficiencies.

    Responsibilities

    • Supports the procure-to-pay process on behalf of AbbVie scientists to provide chemical and biological supplies required for the successful day-to-day operation and ongoing execution of experiments in our laboratories. This position is accountable for ~$5MM in spend.
    • Accountable for maintaining accuracy and quality of the chemical inventory in LC which includes approximately 20M containers valued at ~$2MM. Responsible for maintaining cradle-to-grave tracking of the AbbVie LC chemical inventory. This includes partnering with the Discovery Chemists to maintain their individual lab inventories and ensuring compliance with DEA & DHS regulations for controlled substances, chemical weapons pre-cursors, etc. & complying with EHS/Chemical Segregation requirements.
    • Responsible for identifying, driving, and implementing process efficiencies resulting in cost-savings for the Chemical Stockroom Operation. Acts as subject matter expert and consultant to guide and assist scientists and other team members on processes and best practices re: laboratory inventory storage
    • Identify and communicate system requirements, including opportunities for improvement, to IT partners responsible for ongoing system needs and updates in support of optimizing end-user / researcher experience.
    • Coordinate and conduct Chemical Ordering and Management System training for the research community representing approximately 700 scientists. Actively support and drive end-user use of system-related upgrades and enhancements. Based on customer/operational feedback, participate in system deployments at other AbbVie locations. Maintain intimate use and knowledge of Chemical Ordering and Management System (currently ACTION-ERM).
    • Supervise and support the growth of 2-3 part-time student workers, providing mentorship and skill development.
    • Assumes responsibility for training back-up to the Chemical Stockroom operations and shares responsibility for training new Laboratory Stockroom employees
    • Oversees and ensures proper execution and daily upkeep of functional area requiring good observation skills and attention to detail.
    • Receives, delivers and expedites (when needed), all materials and supplies to R&D customers.
    • Reinforces Safety policies & procedures and performs required safety inspections per EHS Policy.

    Qualifications

    • High School diploma or GED; BS in chemistry or IT Preferred, advanced degree desired
    • 5+ years of related experience required. (1+ with Bachelor’s degree)
    • Controlled Drug Agent (CDA) Certification required. Successful DEA background check required. Experience with Laboratory Stockroom Inventory (LSI) management system and AbbVie’s Chemical Tracking, Inventory and Ordering Network (ACTION-ERM) system strongly preferred
    • Experience with SAP (SRM & ECC) preferred
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
    • Ability to demonstrate initiative and work independently and function in a fast-paced, continually changing environment providing strong attention to detail

Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
