JOB PROFILE SUMMARY
The Vice President of Communications and Public Relations will oversee all aspects of the Progress Residential’s internal and external communications. This individual will be an experienced communications professional with a demonstrated track record of managing internal communications, media relations, social media content, and partnership marketing. You will be the architect and driver of our reputation management strategy that elevates the image of the organization through strategic partnerships, sponsorships, and public relations activities.
STRATEGY, VISION AND LEADERSHIP
Identify challenges and emerging issues faced by the organization. Work with the leadership team to recognize internal and external communications opportunities and solutions. Define and execute appropriate strategies to support them.
Create opportunities for relevant and meaningful internal company dialog while ensuring critical information is received throughout all levels of the organization. Will include ghostwriting communication for executives and regular company-wide communication.
Set the strategy, practices and policies for authoring, publishing and optimizing content on our website, social, digital profiles, public pages and other sites including LinkedIn and Glassdoor. Align key messages to target audiences and map communications to appropriate channels, media and frequency.
Oversee proactive and reactive media relations activities, which may include generating media interviews for corporate leaders and investment management executives, developing and distributing press releases, coordinating and managing interviews, securing contributed content or bylined articles; and ensuring all key spokespeople complete media training sessions as needed. Monitor and analyze news and social media sites for mentions and opportunities.
When necessary, serve as a company spokesperson and lead public relations point person on media interactions that help promote the organization, working directly with media contact or through public relations agency. Ensure appropriate media training, policies and practices at all levels of the organization.
Provide strategic direction and continuous improvement of the content and production of the quarterly companywide meetings and annual leadership meeting.
Lead the promotion and execution of the company volunteer programs
Develop, execute and promote a thought leadership program, including writing, editing and sharing content or soliciting content from internal or industry leaders.
Oversee the Voice of Customer program facilitating collection and socialization of customer feedback data. Lead the online reputation management program and facilitate resolution of issues creating negative sentiment. Build and solicit positive sentiment.
COMMUNICATIONS OPERATIONS
Responsible for the authoring, editing, approval and distribution of internal and resident newsletters, internal communications, e-news and online postings or tweets. Maintain communications calendar, digital announcements and internal communication requests.
Develop promotional materials for corporate, employment and management services brands. May include authoring and distributing press releases.
Oversee the day-to-day activities of the communications function including budgeting, planning and team development Identify opportunities for awards submissions and manage entries
Manage conference participation; secure earned and paid speaking arrangements at key events
Leverage state-of-the art communications tools and technology including social listening, email and SMS, blogs, content management, event management, reputation management, reporting and project management
Leverage data and data analytics to measure performance, identify themes and opportunities.
TEAM DEVELOPMENT/MANAGEMENT
Recruit and manage a team to support the development and execution of the communications, content and reputation strategy
Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality
Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach on a consistent basis
Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance appraisals, and administer salary adjustments
QUALIFICATIONS:
MA or MBA degree in journalism, communications, or related field is required
Minimum 5 years’ experience in an executive or director-level role either in-house or with an agency
Extensive track record of successful and versatile writing and editorial experience
Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing comprehensive strategic communications and public relations for corporate, employment and consumer brands
A minimum of five years’ experience in planning, writing, editing, and production of content, newsletters, press releases, annual reports, promotional materials, social content and other publications
Innovative thinker, with a track record for translating strategy into action plans
Experience in building, mentoring, and coaching a team of marketing specialists
Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution skills
Superior management skills; ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers
Stature, gravitas, and confidence to gain the credibility and respect of C-suite
Self-reliant, good problem solver, results oriented
Ability to make decisions in a changing environment and anticipate future needs
Excellent and persuasive communicator
Energetic, flexible, collaborative and proactive
Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with senior management, Ability to operate as an effective tactical as well as strategic thinker
