Job Title: Plumbing Engineering Design Professional
Location: Houston, TX
We are currently seeking a Plumbing Engineering Designer to join our team in Houston, TX. As a Plumbing Engineering Designer, you will be responsible for creating drawings using a variety of tools including Revit and AutoCAD.
You will:
- Develop, modify, and review Revit models of plumbing and fire suppression systems and components according to governing codes, established standards and Revit modeling techniques, based on input from the engineering team.
- Create project drawings from the Revit model.
- Develop flow diagrams, riser diagrams, control diagrams, equipment schedules, details and similar project documents using AutoCAD.
- Organize and maintain Revit models and design documents for multiple projects.
- Prepare calculations necessary for the plumbing and fire suppression systems design.
- Work closely with project team and assists to complete projects on aggressive schedules.
- Perform all work in a clear, complete, and accurate manner.
- Use Revit, Navisworks, or other clash detection software to check the plumbing and fire suppression systems design for interferences with other building elements.
- Utilize knowledge and experience in applying modeling and drafting principles for drawings.
- Produce equipment schedules, making changes and adjustments as necessary with input from the engineering team as required.
- Select plumbing equipment and layout the required equipment space.
- Coordinate with HVAC and electrical designers to coordinate the requirements.
- Implement and utilize our Standards for projects and processes.
- Actively seek new knowledge related to engineering practices, principles and regulation changes.
- Take personal responsibility for fostering a green workplace through sustainable work practices.
- Foster a commitment to external and internal client service.
You Have:
- Basic knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
- Basic knowledge of building codes.
- Basic knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of plans, sections diagrams and equipment schedules, and drawings.
- Ability to design and model plumbing and fire protection systems for large and complex projects.
- Ability to produce drawings, specifications, and calculations with guidance of more senior staff.
- Ability to interpret consultant design documents (for instance kitchen consultant’s equipment layouts, equipment schedule and catalog cuts) and design the necessary plumbing system.
- Proficiency in Revit, including BIM modeling required.
- Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Basic knowledge about sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines.
- Ability to perform standard computer drafting functions using Revit and be able to resolve design conflicts.
- Ability to effectively meet deadlines.
- Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work in team environment.
- Associate degree or Technology degree required; Bachelor’s degree in architectural or mechanical engineering preferred.
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate preferred.
- 1-3years of plumbing and fire suppression system design experience working on a wide variety of building types, such as: commercial, corporate, institutional, and civic, justice, science and technology, aviation, or healthcare facilities.
- Experience working and coordinating with integrated teams.
- Experience with high purity water systems, compressed air and specialty gas systems is a plus.
- LEED credential preferred (required within first year of employment).
- ASPE CPD credentials preferred (required within first year of employment).
