Mechanical Director
About the Role:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Mechanical Director to provide leadership and strategic direction to our team of mechanical engineers. This leadership role will involve mentoring, performance management, and career development for your team members. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, exceptional leadership skills, and a proven ability to manage complex projects and deliver high-quality results. You will be a key player in collaborating with other department heads and principals to ensure seamless project execution and client satisfaction. This role requires a deep understanding of the MEP industry and the ability to stay current with the latest technologies and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license in Texas is required.
- 10+ years of experience in an MEP engineering firm performing drafting, design, engineering, and progressive people management. Leadership experience is strongly preferred. Exceptional candidates with 7+ years of experience will be considered.
- Experience with load and energy analysis software (e.g., HAP, Trace 700) preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Bluebeam required. Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit preferred.
- Familiarity with sustainability rating systems (LEED, WELL) preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and provide technical direction to staff in the design of mechanical systems for diverse markets (mission critical, telecommunications, commercial, government, etc.).
- Manage mechanical design staff, aligning with and meeting company goals.
- Collaborate with leadership to establish goals, development plans, and budgets for the mechanical design staff.
- Conduct performance reviews and address performance issues.
- Coordinate with principals and engineers on mechanical system design approaches.
- Assist mechanical staff in communicating system needs with other departments.
- Utilize design software (e.g., Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Revit) as needed.
- Communicate and coordinate high-level project development with other department directors, principals, and project managers.
- Ensure adherence to company standards and processes.
- Maintain relationships with equipment vendors.
- Provide mentoring, training, and develop a tailored training program for staff.
- Assist in maintaining client relationships and provide senior technical advisement.
- Facilitate the development of project specifications.
- Ensure quality control initiatives are followed for all projects.
- Lead the development of schematic design narratives and sketches.
- Identify and communicate process improvements.
- Proactively facilitate conflict/deadline resolution.
- Audit technical reports, energy models, and calculations.
- Perform quality control of contract documents.
- Assist with construction administration, including submittal reviews, RFIs, change orders, and site visits.
- Ensure code compliance.
- Assist in cross-coordination of design with other disciplines.
- Lead interviews for mechanical engineering and designer candidates.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience (target range $130,000 - $150,000; potential for higher compensation up to $160,000-$165,000 for highly qualified candidates).
