Senior Electrical Project Engineer

Position Overview
We are currently seeking a Senior Electrical Project Engineer to join our team in Houston, Dallas, or Austin. In this role, you will manage and mentor a team of engineers, oversee the electrical design of large building projects, and contribute to project development from concept through construction. You will work collaboratively across HOK’s practices to ensure the delivery of high-quality, innovative solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:
- Identify opportunities to enhance electrical engineering design and processes.
- Lead the development of new Revit tools and design trends.
Project Management (10% of the time):
- Estimate project manpower, monitor budgets, and organize deliverables.
- Establish project standards for delivery, including developing Revit standards in collaboration with the BIM team.
- Stay current with industry and technology trends, recommending improvements where necessary.
Project Engineering (90% of the time):
- Lead the engineering efforts on large or complex projects from concept to commissioning.
- Provide design inputs and perform reviews for team projects.
- Attend client meetings to foster relationships and ensure project alignment.
- Conduct site visits for surveys, quality reviews, and compliance checks.
- Mentor engineering staff and ensure project delivery on time and within budget.
Business Development:
- Support business development efforts by providing project summaries and presenting work at industry events.
- Assist with preparing fee estimates for electrical engineering services on potential projects.
Performance Metrics:
- Ensure project profitability and team efficiency.
- Deliver high-quality, integrated design solutions with sustainability at the forefront.
- Build cohesive, multidisciplinary teams and maintain high client satisfaction.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Proven ability to lead projects ranging from $20M to $80M in size.
- Expertise in electrical systems design for complex buildings and campuses.
- Experience with Revit, Fire Alarm, and Life Safety Systems.
- Strong project management and leadership skills, with the ability to manage interdisciplinary coordination.
- Experience with mission-critical systems, LEED projects, and high-performance buildings.
Technical Proficiency:
- Ability to work creatively to resolve complex design challenges.
- Strong multi-disciplinary project team leadership.
- Proficient in developing electrical designs, specifications, and drawings using Revit and other design software.
Education and Credentials:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Master’s preferred).
- PE License required.
- LEED Credential required within 6 months of employment.
- Minimum of 7 years of project engineering experience, with at least one high-profile project in your portfolio.
- Experience with projects valued at $100M+ and one major project valued at $250M+.
- Experience with integrated teams and complex analysis tools for electrical design.
- NCEES record preferred, allowing registration in any state.
Additional Skills:
- Experience in commercial, corporate, institutional, civic, aviation, science & technology, and healthcare sectors.
- Familiarity with architecturally significant buildings, central plants, and mission-critical systems.
