Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Performs the welding process on metal assemblies that may exhibit any of a variety of metal components (carbon, steel, galvaneal, stainless steel, etc.), using several types of general and specific equipment, in the production of 53' tractor trailers. Specific duties may vary from department to department. Functions may also vary within a department based on specific tasks and types of materials to be welded as directed by the Team Leader or Production Supervisor. MIG welding is the primary type of welding at the facility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Fabricates assemblies that are used in building a trailer by using MIG-welding techniques and appropriate welding equipment.
- Sets the welding machine parameters, including the gas, voltage, amperage and wire speed on specific welding equipment. Makes minor adjustments to this equipment as needed.
- Cleans and prepares surfaces to be welded. Sets up, assembles, and tack-welds parts.
- Moves components and large containers using various material handling equipment to include overhead cranes, forklifts, manual or powered carts, trolley systems, or by carrying materials by hand. Must maintain required certifications.
- Observes all safety and security procedures and must wear all assigned PPE.
- Maintains a clean work area, including machines, tools, equipment, and storage areas.
- Performs other routine duties as needed, including all required inspections.
- Observes all safety and security procedures and policies while performing required tasks.
Qualifications
SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS:
· Must be able to perform work with little to no supervision.
· May be asked to assist in the training of new employees.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Must be able to do heavy lifting of up to 50 pounds without mechanical assistance and, if the task requires it, multiple times daily in an 8 to 12 hour shift.
· Must have the ability to see, hear, sit, walk, bend, reach, grasp, stoop, kneel, twist, crawl, carry, climb steps, work overhead or at heights, and push/pull up to 50 pounds.
· Must have the ability to stand and move about on concrete 8 to 12 hours a day, if needed, based on shift requirements.
· Must complete a medical questionnaire that assesses pulmonary health and the ability to effectively use personal protective equipment. Further medical examination may be required based upon the questionnaire responses.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
· GED or high school diploma is preferred. Vocational certificate is welding is preferred.
· Previous MIG welding experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, ETC.:
· If tasked with their usage, on-site certification to operate specialized machinery (e.g. cranes, forklifts, etc.) will be required and provided.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· Ability to accurately read a tape measure and other measuring tools.
· Must be competent in math to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure – whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
· Ability to read labels and instructions, as well as complete various written documentation including readings, reports, and other forms.
· Ability to read bills of materials, shipping/receiving documents, and pick orders.
· Ability to use a computer to read manufacturing orders as needed.
· Ability to work with hands and to work in mechanically oriented situations.
· Aptitude to learn and retain new information.
· Ability to follow instructions, given either verbally or in writing.
· Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
· Ability to communicate effectively in English.
· Ability to wear all mandated personal protective equipment (PPE) per Company requirements. This includes an air-supplied welding hood, hard hat/bump cap, safety glasses, safety shoes/boots, hearing protection, gloves, and other job-specific PPE as required.
Additional Information
Great Dane Jonesboro normally operates on a 4 day schedule, Monday through Thursday, with occasional Friday or Saturday work as production needs dictate. Our 1st shift typically begins at either 6:00am/7:00am, and ends at either 3:30pm/4:30pm, based on individual department schedules. Our 2nd shift typically begins at 5:00pm and ends at 3:30am. Some departments may work beyond these hours as needed. Please indicate your availability for either shift when applying.
A favorable background screen, drug screen, and proof of work authorization in the United States is required for employment.

Starting wage for the Production Welder position is $16.25/hour with a shift premium of $0.50/hour. Rapid promotion can typically be expected within the first year of employment.
