    The Community Relations Specialist is responsible for assisting in the development and execution of Hannaford Supermarkets’ Community Relations projects and partnerships and secondarily supports the public relations team with announcements tied to these partnerships. This position plays a critical role in executing integrated, meaningful, and authentic community relations programs and community donations that inspire customer loyalty and result in sales and market growth for the banner. The Community Relations Specialist oversees the population and integrity of data within the Community Relations CRM tool and is responsible for data management in the budget tracking tool (currently ‘Project Accounting”) to support the Community Relations Manager with strategy building for the entire Hannaford footprint. The Community Relations Specialist oversees and develops the Community Relations Coordinator, providing direction and support in the day-to-day responsibilities of that role and offering professional guidance on the associate’s career development goals.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Assist the Community Relations Manager with ongoing research and assessment of community needs and resources throughout Hannaford’s five-state service area.

    • Manage the implementation and evolution of Community Relations programs meaningfully benefit local communities and drive customer and associate engagement.

    • Develop relationships with community leaders and organizations across the entire Hannaford footprint that align with Hannaford’s charitable giving strategy.

    • Build strong, collaborative, and effective working relationships with Hannaford’s internal business partners including associates at retail, corporate, and distribution center to ensure an integrated and authentic connection and positive outcomes at the community level.

    • With guidance from the Community Relations Manager, evaluate and negotiate sponsorship opportunities and event participation.

    • Responsible for the input and accuracy of data in the Community Relations budget accounting tool.

    • Manage the process for funding requests received through the Community Relations CRM, and supply data reports from that tracking tool to support strategic decisions.

    • Supervise the day-to-day activities of the Community Relations Coordinator, providing guidance and associate development goals.

    • Support the Manager of External Communications with planning and execution of media announcements and events related to Hannaford’s community investments.

    • Attend community events in representation of Hannaford, and, on occasion, speak publicly on behalf of our business at these events.

    • Collaborate with internal and external business partners to provide story inspiration and content development based on community investments and engagement for Hannaford-owned channels such as the Intranet, social media, fresh magazine, Our Shelf, and Voices.

    • Schedule, lead or participate in meetings with internal business partners and external stakeholders to foster relationships, identify new opportunities, and leverage existing programs and activities that position Hannaford as a caring, innovative, and thoughtful partner in our communities.

    • Support the development and execution of giving strategies for the Community Relations budget and marketing initiatives such as GO & GRO events, defense plans, co-marketing events, and other business promotions that include a community donation.

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • College degree or equivalent experience

    • Minimum 5 years or more of related experience

    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

    Preferred:

    • Management experience

    • Retail experience

    • Self-starter who is comfortable identifying opportunities and defining crucial path for seizing them

    • Experience and training in the principles and techniques of corporate budget administration

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Public Speaking

    • Aptitude for anticipating needs and proactive problem solving

    • Aptitude for analysis and conceptual problem solving

    • Microsoft Office Skills

    • Attention to detail, accuracy, follow-up skills, and confidentiality
