R&D Grower/Trials Coordinator - Ref. BNA0566 Ball North America West Chicago, IL Responsible for supporting the breeding, growing, and product development staff in producing highest quality plant material for breeding, research trials and marketing events supporting Darwin Perennials within the R&D Greenhouse Team. Job Description: You will be responsible for managing all aspects of Darwin Perennial Programs from receiving plant material, propagation, growing the material out, to shipping the plant material to various locations. Participate in IPM program including beneficials insects to insure success of the entire program. Maintain accurate records of perform stock maintenance, renewals, trial harvest and testing for breeder stock. Responsibilities to include all aspects of the breeder and culture trials from propagation to final grow out evaluations as well as accurate data recording. General plant maintenance to include daily watering and fertilizing of plant material including weekend watering rotations. Assist in all Darwin marketing events from propagation to shipping the finished product as well as outdoor trials. Growing duties will include but not limited to propagation, daily stock and liner care, finish growing, packing and shipping. Complete responsibility for organization and oversight of greenhouse area and equipment. The R&D Growing Team is a focus based unit where the all staff works in concert to achieve objectives of the entire facility. Manage breeder stock program and all the on-site perennial trials, samples, new introductions, and the Garden display beds for Darwin Perennials. Schedule, propagate, transplant and prepare shipping of plant material for Darwin Perennials. Communicate daily with Greenhouse Manager and R&D staff on objectives and goals. Job Requirements: Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work with a high degree of accuracy in a team environment. Proven perennial experience with a comprehensive knowledge of propagation. Ability to adapt to a variable daily work schedule and be situationally aware of changing priorities. Managing, planning and organizing time effectively to meet customer demands as well as individual, team and company objectives. Proven ability to work independently and perform work in accordance with team, departmental and company goals. Required Skills & Experience: Minimum Associates Degree in Horticultural or related field. 3-5 years Greenhouse growing and/or production experience. Knowledge and understanding of perennial propagation and production. Current Pesticide Operators License is required, or will be required to obtain within 30 days of employment. PC experience to include MS Office and record keeping is a must. Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods of time. Ability to lift 50lbs. Capable of handling greenhouse temperature extremes for extended periods.
