Labor Relations Summer Intern 2019 (Paid) -Date:Aug 21, 2018 -Work Location:Fort Worth, TX -An interns job duties will mainly include supporting ongoing projects while job shadowing Labor Relations officers with a focus on developing and furthering BNSFs initiatives. Examples include, but are not limited to: -Develop industry knowledge by researching agreements and arbitration decisions in order to support Labor Relations officers with interpreting collective bargaining agreements -Collaborate with Labor Relations officers to resolve labor disputes through grievance procedures, including the research and writing of responsive letters and formal briefs in support of BNSFs position (this requires excellent writing skills) -Provide support for labor claims conferences and assist in local labor agreement negotiations -Build relationships with internal customers in Operations and rail union leaders -Seek opportunities to further employee engagement, specifically with a heavily unionized workforce Additionally, qualified candidates must be able to: -Demonstrate the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities listed above -Demonstrate leadership skills -Work effectively in a team environment -Express ideas and information in a clear and concise manner -Recognize and respond effectively to unexpected situations and tight deadlines -Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changing task priorities and work situations -Demonstrate ability to complete tasks regardless of obstacles -Primarily indoors at the Fort Worth campus -Some travel may be required HOURS OF WORK: -Hours are fairly regular (Monday Friday, 8am 5pm) with a minimum of 40 hours per week -BENEFITS: -Relocation Stipend -Summer Lodging Stipend -Potential for offer of fulltime position -Paid Internship -BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION ELEMENTS: -Criminal history -Last 7 years of driving history -Last 5 years of employment history to include military service -Social Security number -Education MEDICAL REVIEW ELEMENTS -Medical evaluation -Drug Screen -Other elements as needed
