The Transportation Department is responsible for providing safe, efficient, and dependable transportation to commuters on all Metra-operated lines: Milwaukee North and West, Rock Island, Metra Electric, South West Service, North Central Service and Heritage Corridor and those lines operating under purchase of service agreements: BNSF and Union Pacific. In addition to all employees directly involved in providing train service, the Transportation Department also oversees the Rules Department, Dispatching Office, Crew Management Center, Station Services, Customer Service, Ticket Services and GPS Center. The department is staffed by nearly 900 Transportation employees who are often referred to as the face of Metra. The Technical Communication Specialist (GEB) will provide daily oversight of Los Alamos Technical Associates (LATA) System for specified line(s). Monitor assigned rail line(s) via LATA, Railroad (RR) radios, Voice of Metra and outside resources for any disruption to normal scheduled service. Create or coordinate Voice of Metra or Visual voice of Metra announcements and communicate to on-board equipment for announcements on train. Provide rail line status to Senior Management and approved requestors. Generate tailored train operation/communication reports upon request. Input trainman operational reports daily into Train Operating Performance System (TOPS). Initiate delay comments in LATA to provide approved users with immediate rail line status. Troubleshoot and apply minor system modifications in the event of workstation or software failure. Monitor overall system and equipment status report and follow up on failures to ensure 100% system availability. Participate in planning large events to properly prepare anticipated announcements. Monitor and communicate with passengers of Metra Electric District via the Passenger Assistance Link (PAL). This position has various work schedules, including night shift. Performs other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization. Candidates can expect salary offers that range from the minimum to the mid-point of the salary range. Metra provides full pay ranges so candidate can consider their growth potential. Metra is a railroad employer subject to the provisions of the Railroad Retirement Tax Act, not the Social Security Administration. Requirements * Must possess a high school diploma or GED. Some college is preferred. * Must have one (1) year office experience. * Basic arithmetic skills, good verbal and written communication, and data entry skills or computer familiarity is required. * Must be able to type 25 wpm minimum. * Must be available on call 24-hours/day, 7days/week, 365 days/year, including weekends and holidays.
