    Job Description

    As a Network Engineer, you will work cross-functionally with Product Management, Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply, Service and customers to develop network strategies, resolve network issues and perform installations of the network products. You will assist in development of new network products, improve overall serviceability, including new products, derivative products, product upgrades and enhancements, and improving the customer experience.

    • Design network installations for X-Ray, BSCAN SIM and other Smiths Detection systems.
    • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of network configurations, topologies, and protocols, ensuring all changes and updates are accurately recorded.
    • Develop detailed troubleshooting guides and best practices based on past incidents to facilitate quicker resolution of future issues.
    • Configure and manage file sharing services on both Windows and Linux systems, ensuring appropriate permissions and access controls are implemented.
    • Develop and maintain software installation packages and scripts, streamlining the deployment process across various platforms ensuring compatibility and user-friendliness.
    • Manage Windows environments by creating user accounts, assigning appropriate access levels, and configuring share rights. Ensure compliance with security policies and best practices, regularly reviewing permissions to maintain data integrity and protect sensitive information
    • Work cross-functionally with Sales and Product Management to evaluate, develop, and configure network architectures (hardware and software) and Bills of Material (BOM) based on sales tenders (Request for Proposal).
    • Desktop configuration: Windows 10 and 11 product editions, Local Group Policy, Local Privacy Settings, Static IP addressing and Windows Services.
    • Networking: Routing and subnet masking.
    • IP Addressing including DHCP and Static IP Addressing
    • Design comprehensive network architecture plans tailored to customer needs, clearly outlining technical specifications and configurations. Present these plans to end customers, Sales, and Product Management, ensuring all stakeholders understand the proposed solutions and their benefits
    • Create detailed records of installation processes, capturing specific customer configurations, settings, and modifications.
    • Install and deploy Windows and Linux based systems.
    • Use data-driven analysis to identify field serviceability and reliability improvements necessary to improve network hardware and software reliability.
    • Troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve routing, hardware, and operating system problems across Windows and Linux environments, ensuring optimal network performance and system functionality.
    • Drive project and product improvement plans to completion.
    • Provide regular updates on project status and task priorities to team members and management,
    • Analyze cross-functional workflows to identify gaps and inefficiencies, collaborating with stakeholders to develop targeted project and product improvement plans.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field. Equivalent industry experience in lieu of degree acceptable
    • MCSE or equivalent preferred
    • CCNA or equivalent preferred

    Experience:

    • 5+ years of progressive work experience in a multi-disciplinary environment in network design, network operations, Technical Support, Product Support, or Field Operations.
    • Extensive experience with the technical requirements process from initial requirements definition through verification, validation, and field adoption.
    • Experience designing system configurations, directing system installations in the field, and maintaining system standards.
    • Military experience preferred.

    Knowledge/skills:

    • In-depth understanding of the OSI Model and networking concepts, including routing, subnet masking, DHCP, and IP addressing.
    • Knowledge of routing protocols and related metrics, including RTT.
    • Familiarity with DNS (Windows and BIND) and NTP.
    • Proficient in managing network file shares (Windows, SAMBA, NFS).
    • Basic scripting skills in PowerShell or Bash; able to script in multiple languages.
    • Microsoft Windows expertise, including user management, group policies, desktop configuration, static IP addressing, and Windows services.
    • Linux knowledge, including run levels and daemons.
    • Understanding of database maintenance and replication; knowledge of BSON/JSON/XML.
    • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Proven customer relationship management and project delivery skills on schedule and on budget.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and perform well in ambiguous environments.
    • Familiarity with safety regulations and planning requirements related to network systems, preferably in airport environments.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Visio).
    • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and accept responsibility.
    • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally to build strong relationships.

    Background :

    This position may require Sensitive Security Information (SSI) access and vetting via the TSA. If required, applicant must successfully pass a federal background investigation.
    This position may require a U.S. Personal Security Clearance.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    • The individual’s primary workplace is located in the Edgewood production facility there are no exposures to unusual elements.
    • The individual is chartered to work closely with unionized production associates which necessitates being mindful of the rules of the Collective Bargaining Agreement – including respecting Union work.
    • This position requires access to ITAR, EAR, and Department of State or Department of Commerce controlled information and routine access to a cleared facility. Applicant must be a U.S. Person (citizen, green card holder or other permanent resident or protected resident).

    The compensation for this position ranges from $69,900.00 - $186,400.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills, job-related knowledge, and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
