    Job Description

    Smiths Detection is seeking a highly motivated 2025 Summer Intern to join our team. This role is designed to provide college-level students interested in Supply Chain careers an insight into the various aspects of the field in a manufacturing environment. It is a highly energetic role with an opportunity to either learn through a breadth of roles or deep dive into a specific area within Supply Chain.

    The range of learning extends from management of inbound materials, warehouse space, and people resources, inventory accuracy, streamlining the process of picking parts for production, reverse logistics of excess materials back to stock rooms, shipping and trade compliance paperwork and processes, MRB material movements, freight bookings, logistics analytics, freight optimization, Mercury gate TMS, WMS implementation readiness, procurement execution processes, production/scheduling processes, SAP master data, analytics, order management, stakeholders management, inventory strategies and issue resolutions.

    Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

    The selected intern will work with a Mentor Supply Chain leader and will:

    • Assist in Cycle count process, Annual PI, inbound GR
    • Assist to enhance Logistics Analytics/KPI’s
    • Warehouse organization
    • Support initiatives to reduce transportation cost
    • Participate in and/or initiate Kaizens for 5S, pick process improvements, production alignment, etc.
    • MRB support
    • Assist with PO (Purchase Order) dates maintenance in SAP
    • Analyze Vendor OTD (On Time Delivery) misses to identify corrective actions
    • Analyze OTTP (On Time Delivery) misses to identify corrective actions
    • Assist with SAP Supply Chain master data maintenance
    • Support Supply Chain process improvements in general
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Education: Degree-track undergraduate or graduate student with a focus on Supply Chain Management.

    Experience: Basic understanding of Supply Chain Management principles required.

    Knowledge skills/other attributes:

    • Ability to work in matrixed environment with different profession types (i.e. engineers, software developers, project managers, etc.)
    • Microsoft Excel data analytics
    • MS Office suite
    • Power BI
    • Ability to be on your feet and move around for 3-5 hours a day
    • The drive to learn through 5Whys and keen observation
    • US Citizen preferred; ability to pass a background check and security vetting required

    The compensation for this position ranges from $15.00 - $35.00/hr and will vary depending on factors including level of school completed and type of position requirements for skills, whether technical or non-technical.
