    Job Description

    Technology Programmes delivers Project Management excellence to drive the development of technology in the Americas and beyond in the Smiths Detection Business. An activity of the business area is to manage major development activities to deliver and sustain capabilities to our world-wide Customers. A key functional area to delivering these outcomes is the R&D or Engineering Function.

    In order to drive efficiency, reduce costs, and assure timely delivery, it is essential for project managers to coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure appropiate effort is provided to each project. This requires a robust tolls to allow prioritaztion of projects and resource assignment based upon key metrics. This internship will focus on assisting current project managers in development and utilization of key project management tools and assisting in updating cross-funtional processes.

    Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

    • Learn processes used by Smiths Detection for project initiation and management.
    • Interface with key stakeholders to understand current gaps and identify places for improvement in project management processes.
    • Optimize Jira-based interface for global, intra-company project requests.
    • Author manuals and develop training for developed solution.
    • Work on-site at Edgewood, MD.
    • Complying with and promoting all relevant legal requirements & Smiths policies and procedures, including business ethics, data protection and health & safety
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Education: Degree-track undergraduate or graduate student in computer science, business or engineering.

    Experience: Experience in project management techniques and processes.

    Knowledge skills/other attributes:

    • Ability to work in matrixed environment with different profession types (i.e. engineers, software developers, project mangers, etc.)
    • Platform experience working with Jira, Confluence, Microsoft Office.
    • US Citizen preferred; ability to pass a background check and security vetting required

    The compensation for this position ranges from $15.00 - $35.00/hr and will vary depending on factors including level of school completed and type of position requirements for skills, whether technical or non-technical.
