Assistant - GSC Shops (Subs/Transformer Repair)**_ Alabama Power Company, a subsidiary of Southern Company, is seeking job candidates to fill full time job openings in the Birmingham area. These are entry level laborer positions that offer career progression to most journeyman level jobs. This position involves repairing and reconditioning all major equipment, while maintaining the spare transformer fleet. This position is also responsible for performing various repair and fabrication activities for generating plants and other Southern Company business units as requested. ** ** CANDIDATE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• High School diploma or equivalent is preferred (2 year Technical Degree) * 2 Years Construction, Maintenance, or Electrical experience is required. * Able to perform physically demanding activities while working outside in all conditions * Ability to operate all equipment (forklifts, cranes, shop machines) while demonstrating safe work practices associated with all construction and maintenance work functions. * To be considered for an interview, candidates must pass a pre-employment written assessment (CAST) and a Physical Skills Pre-Employment Test * Military Background /Or Associate Degree In Industrial Electricity Is a Plus Candidates must maintain regular attendance and be available for scheduled overtime. Must be customer oriented, motivated, and a team player. Must have a basic mechanical aptitude, knowledge of hand tools and the ability to take instruction/ direction and translate into actions. Pay for this position is based on an hourly rate with possible overtime pay. Starting pay is $17.57 per hour with the opportunity for two raises a year given expected performance.
