JOB PURPOSE: Assists crew members in the installation, testing, and repair of electrical meters, prepare meters for test, and maintaining inventory, all other associated duties as assigned. EDUCATION AND/OR SPECIAL TRIANING: 1. High School Diploma or equivalent. 2. Preferred: Associates degree in Electronics, or a Journeyman Electricians license or an equivalent combination of training and experience. EXPERIENCE AND MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: -Basic knowledge of electrical distribution metering and related equipment. -Ability to read, interpret and communicate written job descriptions, use technical manuals, maps and electrical blueprint information preferred. -Basic computer skills. -Available to work, as needed, irregular or overtime hours and under special conditions. -Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. -Must establish and maintain good working relationships with officers, managers, supervisors, fellow employees, outside consultants and the general public. -Must maintain a strong sense of propriety concerning confidential matters. -Required to live in the reporting service area, as defined in the agreement between El Paso Electric Company and IBEW Local 960 in Article VII Section 1E. -Must sign the Pre-Apprenticeship Agreement and comply with its provisions. -Valid Driver's License and comply with the Company's Driving Policy; Department of Transportation (DOT) Certification or must obtain certification and pass DOT physical within introductory period. -Must obtain security clearance for access to Military installations. -Must Pass a Human Performance Evaluation (HPE) ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Prepares, tests and repairs single phase meters. 2. Reads kilowatt hour and demand meters in substations and on customer premises. 3. Retrieves data from mass memory devices. 4. Maintains records for meters, current transformers and potential transformers. 5. Bar codes single phase meters. 6. Assists in keeping the meter shop neat and clean. 7. Assists crew members in the performance of their work. 8. Participates in designated training activities. ENVIRONMENTAL/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 1. The incumbents in this classification are subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions and temperature changes of extreme cold weather (below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour) and extreme hot heat (temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour); and exposed to loud noises, electrical current, atmospheric conditions, oils and other hazards. 2. Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 60 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 30 pounds of force constantly to move objects. 3. Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. 4.
