Investigator for situations involving fire and explosion, safety and security. Provides gas emergency, fire, safety and security training services for Southern Company Gas and external organizations. This position is being posted as job family (Investigator I or II). * Investigator I requires natural gas experience * Investigator II requires both natural gas and fire investigation experience Representative Duties and Responsibilities: ** ** PUBLIC ACCIDENTS & PROPERTY INCIDENTS * Performs on-scene investigation and recovery activities of company employees and federal, state, and private and local public safety personnel. * Implements accident/incident scene investigation plans (e.g., fire, explosion, death). * Documents, evaluates, and communicates evidence. * Identifies possible company liability and makes recommendations. * Provides information to public safety officers, SOCO Gas officials, and serves as company spokesperson on-scene. INTERNAL INVESTIGATIONS & PHYSICAL SECURITY * Investigates white collar crimes (e.g., credit card fraud, company vehicle accidents involving serious injury, employee misconduct, workplace violence). * Serves local property managers as direct liaison with Emergency Management agencies. ASSISTS LEGAL COUNSEL * Prepares confidential reports for In-House Counsel. * Provides technical assistance to Outside Counsel. * Participates in depositions, trials, and arbitration hearings. * Pulls work order history and records request for counsel. TRAINING * Conducts natural/liquid propane gas emergency training for local, state, and federal public safety agencies; and private sector fire investigators; assists with investigations and prosecutions of arson and related crimes. * Conducts training for gas associations and fire academies. * Presents and explains natural/liquid propane gas safety programs for other utilities, civic groups, schools, and community organizations. * Conducts fire training at SOCO Gas liquid natural gas facilities for employees and local fire departments. * Assists implementation of public accident and fire safety programs. * Plans and implements/conducts workplace violence, employee personal safety, crime prevention, and bomb threat training programs. SAFETY & SECURITY * Performs security evaluations of SOCO Gas physical assets; recommends changes and improvements; guides implementation of physical security measures to protect AGLR assets and personnel. * Serves local property managers as direct liaison with local law enforcement, emergency services, and security personnel for subjects involving safety and security. * Provides physical security for executives, company employees, and workplace violence issues. LIQUID NATURAL GAS/PROPANE FACILITIES * Monitors fire protection and suppression equipment; ensures all systems can provide adequate fire protection. * Evaluates fire safety procedures. * Monitors fire extinguisher maintenance and inspection programs. * Recommends improvements and hazard correction measures. Education and Experience:Required: * High School diploma or GED * Excellent Writing and Verbal skills * Ability to be On Call on nights and weekends Preferred: * 3-5 years active fire experience * 2-3 years experience investigating fires * 2-3 years experience investigating situations involving security and safety Preferred: * BS/BA in Engineering, Criminal Justice, or Fire Sciences * 3-5 years gas company experience in an outside service capacity * Working knowledge of gas fired equipment, gas distribution systems; related state and federal laws and regulations; company policies and procedures Or * Equivalent academic education and experience Skills:Required: * Ability to use photographic and video cameras * Presentation and facilitation skills * Well-developed written and verbal communications skills * Ability to conduct confidential and sensitive investigations * Minimum 25% travel to investigation sites.
