    Job Description

    KIPP Gaston Middle is looking for long-term substitutes to fill vacancies through the end of the 2024-25 school year. This position is ideal for someone who is interested in getting experience in education or wants experience in a charter school environment. KIPP Gaston Middle Substitutes are provided ample support, a coach, feedback, and are an integral part of the Gaston community and culture.

    Your responsibilities as a Long-Term Substitute:

    KIPP Long-Term Substitutes fill a specific teaching position for several months at a time and are seen as the teacher for that classroom. They attend professional development twice per week, grade level meetings, departmental meetings, and participate in arrival, lunch, and dismissal duty.

    Curriculum and Instruction

    • Execute provided lesson plans
    • Collect student work and provide feedback, if necessary
    • Ensure all agendas, objectives, and homework are displayed accurately for the class

    Help Build a Positive School and Classroom Culture

    • Embody and maintain school’s values, policies and culture
    • Develop positive relationships with students, families, teachers and staff

    Demonstrate a Growth Mindset

    • Give and receive positive and constructive feedback with your colleagues
  • Qualifications

    • A high school diploma or GED
    • Pass Criminal Background Check
    • Attend KIPP NC Substitute Training
    • Demonstrated commitment to closing the opportunity gap
    • Zest, grit, professionalism, and a sense of humor

    Preferred Qualifications

    The following are not required but are advantageous for candidates:

    • An Associate's or Bachelor's degree
    • Experience in teaching in a high performing charter school and/or schools with a high population of students with free and reduced lunch
    • Fluency in Spanish

    Additional Information

    Compensation

    Long-Term Substitutes are paid $150 per day that they work. If they work an average of 30 hours per week over the course of six months, they may be eligible for benefits.
