    Job Description

    Position Overview:

    As a School Psychologist at KIPP NYC, you will play a pivotal role in fostering the social, emotional, and academic development of students. Through a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework, you will conduct assessments, develop interventions, and provide counseling to ensure that each student’s needs are addressed comprehensively. In this role, you will collaborate closely with teachers, administrators, and families, offering insights on classroom management, behavior support, and social-emotional learning to drive positive student outcomes. Beyond direct student services, you will also contribute to school-wide initiatives, participate in IEP meetings, and, if eligible, mentor a school psychology practicum student or intern.

    General responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

    As a School Psychologist at KIPP NYC, you will be responsible for supporting the social, emotional, and academic development of students through a variety of services. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Lead and implement the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework to assist students with academic and behavioral needs.
    • Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) to support students' behavioral goals.
    • Maintain a caseload of students for individual and group counseling, providing therapeutic support in individual, group, and crisis intervention settings.
    • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other school staff to monitor student progress and provide insights on social-emotional learning, classroom management, and behavior.
    • Develop and implement interventions and strategies to address students' emotional, behavioral, and academic needs.
    • Provide crisis management services, including immediate interventions and support during student crises.
    • Participate in school-wide initiatives to create a positive school climate and foster social-emotional learning across the school community.
    • Lead or serve as a Child Study Teams (CSTs) member, providing consultation and insights on student cases.
    • Engage in ongoing professional development and collaborate with other related fields in the KIPP NYC network to enhance practice and share resources.
    • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about student progress, behavior, and support strategies.
    • Collaborate with school leadership to assist in developing and implementing school-wide behavioral policies and strategies.
    • Participate in IEP meetings as a key member of the student support team, contributing to the development and review of IEP goals and progress.
    • If eligible, supervise a school psychology practicum student or intern, providing mentorship, guidance, and feedback on their clinical practice.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • At least five years of full time classroom teaching experience
    • At least one year of adult management/teacher coaching
    • Experience working with special populations (ELLs, SPED, At-Risk)
    • Experience managing Special Education Services and navigating the Committee on Special Education
    • Model effective and high-quality teaching
    • Demonstrated success developing academic programs and academic culture
    • Demonstrated success planning staff professional development and leading teams of teachers
    • An analytical view of student progress towards standards; skilled in data collection, analysis and presentation
    • Articulate, professional demeanor with strong self-confidence and initiative
    • Extreme flexibility to accommodate multiple priorities and a strong work ethic to accommodate high level of responsibilities
    • Strong interpersonal skills that contribute to a collegial working environment and a healthy measure of the character traits we value: zest, grit, hope, love, social intelligence, gratitude and a sense of humor.
    • Demonstrated success in raising the achievement levels of students within our KIPP NYC communities
    • Bachelor’s degree required
    • NYS Special Education Teaching Certification required

    Compensation and Benefits:

    KIPP NYC offers a competitive salary ranging from $70,829 - $142,270. Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience relevant to the role, NYS certification and licensure, and longevity within the KIPP network. The KIPP NYC Recruitment Team will evaluate a candidate’s years of experience, certification, and longevity at point of hire to determine the step/level a new hire will be placed within our salary scale.
