    Job Description

    KIPP New Orleans Schools is seeking dedicated and reliable Hourly Substitute Teachers to provide high-quality instruction and maintain an engaging learning environment when full-time teachers are unavailable. Substitutes play a critical role in ensuring continuity of learning by implementing lesson plans, managing classroom behavior, and supporting students' academic and personal growth.

    Key Responsibilities

    Instruction & Classroom Management

    • Follow and implement pre-prepared lesson plans to ensure student learning continues in the teacher’s absence.
    • Maintain a structured and positive classroom environment aligned with KIPP’s expectations.
    • Adapt instructional approaches as needed to engage students in learning.
    • Effectively manage student behavior using KIPP’s classroom culture and behavior management systems.

    Student Engagement & Support

    • Build strong relationships with students and create an encouraging and inclusive classroom atmosphere.
    • Support students academically and emotionally, redirecting behavior as needed while fostering student independence.
    • Encourage student participation and ensure all learners stay engaged with the lesson.

    Collaboration & Professionalism

    • Communicate effectively with school staff and administrators about student needs and classroom progress.
    • Follow school policies and procedures for classroom coverage, emergency situations, and daily operations.
    • Arrive on time , follow the assigned schedule, and fulfill all required duties (e.g., hallway transitions, lunch supervision).
    • Maintain accurate records, including attendance and any student concerns , and provide feedback to the full-time teacher upon their return.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED; Bachelor’s degree preferred.

    • Previous teaching or substitute teaching experience is preferred but not required.

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to manage a classroom effectively; adaptability to different instructional settings.

    • Successful completion of State and Federal Criminal Background Check - All offers are considered pending until the successful completion of a professional reference check and a state/federal background check.

    Additional Information

    This is an hourly role at $15.00 an hour.
