Job Title: Production Supervisor
Reports to: Production Manager
Summary of Job
Leads, motivates, supervises, and coordinates activities of workers engaged in the production of plastic parts and/or assemblies by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates to meet customer requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure a safe and efficient work environment for all employees
- Steward of company Core Values
- Lead daily shift start up meetings to set goals and objectives around safety, quality, delivery and cost
- Assigns tasks to workers to coordinate workflow to meet production schedules
- Adjust and continuously evaluate staffing for maximum efficiency and uptime
- Assures the on-the-job training and follow-up evaluation of all production workers
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of all shop floor personnel and provide periodic feedback
- Responsible for assuring all quality issues are addressed and corrective action is taken and documented on JHL (job history log) and Inspection forms
- Supervises and assists the entire process of start-up, shut down, answering alarms, processing, molding, trimming, packaging, milling, assembling and inspection of parts produced on his/her shift
- Responsible for implementing and sustaining Process Improvement ideas and projects
- Responsible for coaching and developing workers on the shift
- Overseas required data on production, processing, attendance, training, safety and performance evaluations forms
- Administers company policies and procedures and enforces safety, attendance and behavior rules and guidelines
- Analyze and mediate work problems, conflicts, misunderstandings, and assists workers in solving work problems
- Confers with incoming and outgoing supervisors to coordinate production, staffing, quality and 5S activities
- Maintains the work area through good housekeeping and safety practices following 5S standards
- Reports machine and equipment malfunctions to maintenance personnel using Maintenance Work Requests (MWR)
- Reports mold problems and tooling damage to tool room using Tooling Damage Report and Tooling Work Request (TWR)
- Works with HR to resolve attendance, behavior and performance issues, by utilizing the Progressive Discipline Reporting mechanism
- Maintain 1st responder status thru training
- Must know or be able to obtain RJG training
- Reports safety incidents
- Responsible to make sure shift is staffed with personnel in charge of ensuring conformity to product requirements
- Have the authority to stop shipment and stop production to correct quality problems
- Maintains assigned SPA (Single Point of Accountability) area, including clarity of expectations to others
- Responsibility and authority to ensure that customer requirements are met
- Other duties may be assigned, as needed
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Education/ Experience
Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or 3 year minimum related experience or training or combination.
Skills
- Ability to coordinate employees to meet customers’ requirements, while maintaining safety, quality and production standards
- Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports including “end of shift reports”, investigations, and After Action Reviews
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of the organization
- Able to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret charts and graphs
- Must be able to maintain valid industrial forklift and driver’s license
- Knowledge of injection molds and processing is preferred but not required. If no previous knowledge he or she would be asked to attend training courses to acquire the knowledge
Physical Demands
- Must be able to stand, walk, use hands & fingers, reaching with hands & arms, stoop, kneel, crouch and climb
- Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds
- Requires good vision (close, color, peripheral and depth) correctable to 20x40
- Must be able to work extended hours and holidays and swing shifts as needed
Environment
Will be performing duties in a non-air conditioned factory environment.
