    Location: Durham and Raleigh, NC

    The primary purpose of this position is to provide clinical services to SPMI clients receiving Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) services including but not limited to:

    • medication prescription, administration, monitoring, and documentation
    • directing psychopharmacological and medical services
    • service coordination, including working with the ACT team to monitor each individual’s clinical status and response to treatment
    • symptom assessment and management/crisis assessment and intervention
    • individual counseling and psychotherapy, substance use treatment
    • support services or direct assistance to ensure that individuals obtain the basic necessities of daily life and consultation to individuals’ families and other major supports.
    • The psychiatrist shall work a minimum of 16 hours per week for every 50 individuals served by the ACT team.

    Description of Responsibilities, Requirements, and Duties

    • Overall supervision of all medical/clinical aspects of the services delivered.
    • Identifying appropriate evidence-based or emerging best practices therapies to be employed by staff in delivering services.
    • Consulting with primary healthcare providers/other providers on the clinical aspects of the clients being served and the implications for those clients’ physical healthcare needs.
    • Coordinating with medical staff of other providers, e.g. state and community inpatient facilities.
    • Supervision of all other medical staff on the ACT team.
    • Assist in identifying, planning, scheduling, and implementing services for the client.
    • Assist in the development of transition plans when clients move in and out of services.
    • Provide any written documentation as required.
    • At the discretion of team lead, supervisor, and/or management, this position may require additional duties not specifically listed above.

    Experience / Licensure / Certification

    The psychiatrist must be a licensed psychiatrist or physician with experience with the population served.

    Each ACT team staff member must successfully participate in the DMH-approved ACTT training. An employee must become NVCI certified, and must receive training in population served and client rights/confidentiality. Employees will be required to attend orientation in the Carolina Outreach treatment model and agency policies and procedures. A valid driver’s license and current automobile insurance is also required. An employee must demonstrate competence to deliver ACTT services prior to service provision.
