    Job Description

    AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented UXO Technician II for employment in New Mexico.

    The responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    1. Performs reconnaissance and classification of UXO.

    • Identifies U.S. and foreign guided missiles, bombs and bomb fuzes, projectiles and projectile fuzes, grenades and grenade fuzes, rockets and rocket fuzes, land mines and associated components, pyrotechnics, military explosives, and demolition materials.

    2. Locates subsurface UXO using military and/or civilian magnetometers or all-metals detectors.

    • Performs excavation procedures on buried UXO by manual means; mechanical means.
    • Performs operator maintenance of military and/or civilian magnetometers or all-metals detectors.
    • Locates surface UXO using visual means.
    • Operates motor vehicle transporting UXO.
    • Prepares an on-site safe holding area for UXO.
    • Performs storage of UXO and demolition materials.
    • Prepares a UXO disposal site
    • Prepares non-electric firing system for a UXO disposal operation, electric firing system for a UXO disposal operation, and a detonating cord firing system.
    • Disposes of UXO/explosives by burning or detonation
    • Operates a personnel decontamination station.
    • Dons and doffs appropriate personal protective equipment in contaminated areas.

    3. Inspects salvage UXO-related material.

    • Erects UXO-related protective works.
    • Determines a magnetic azimuth using a lensatic compass.
    • Performs field expedient identification procedures to ID explosive-contaminated soil.
    • Performs emergency leak seal and packaging of chemical warfare material.
    • Uses radiographic (x-ray) equipment.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • High school diploma or GED equivalent 2+ years of experience as a UXO tech
    • Position requires using an AECOM provided vehicle and/or personal vehicle for AECOM company business

    In accordance with Department of Defense Explosives Safety Board Technical Paper 18 (DDESB TP-18), a UXO Technician shall meet the following minimum requirements:

    • Graduate of a military EOD assistant course; or an accredited UXO technician training course; or military EOD school of the US, Canada, Great Britain, Germany, or Australia.
    • Minimum 1.5 years prior military EOD experience with at least 2 years prior MEC-related experience as defined by DDESB TP-18 in munitions response actions or range clearance activities as appropriate for the contracted operation. Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license. Pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check; many projects/ clients are security sensitive.
    • Pass pre-employment drug screen.
    • Participate in and successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment fitness for duty exam in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.120. This position is contingent upon passing a Fit for Duty exam by receiving a medically “qualified” fit for duty result letter indicating the employee is medically “qualified” to conduct work activities at the jobsite.
    • Annual HAZWOPER exam. Training and annual monitoring program requirements including 40 hour and 8 refresher training courses annually.
    • Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to work in outdoor environments with uneven terrain, variable outdoor conditions including heat, cold, moisture, dryness, noise, and chemicals.
    • Position requires walking 5 – 10 miles per day over large areas of uneven ground to perform surface sweep duties (Picking up metals/munition fragments) Frequent lifting, carrying and loading less than 25 pounds unassisted. Metal/munition fragments will be collected and carried in a bucket and unloaded periodically in designated drop off points.
    • Occasionally lifting, carrying of 25-45 pounds. Assisted lifts of 44 pounds or more each of large or heavy metal or munition objects/loads to designated area. Typically, shorter distances as compared to unassisted loads less than 25 pounds.
    • Frequent repetitive bending/stooping and digging to perform surface sweep duties. (Picking up metal/munition fragments and occasional digging out partially exposed fragments from the ground) Position requires occasionally wearing personal protective equipment including gloves, safety glasses/goggles, shoes/boots, hard hat, hearing protector, including respirator equipment.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Explosive Ordnance Disposal Certificate
    • Heavy Equipment Certifications
    • Minimum 1.5 years prior military EOD experience with at least 3 years prior MEC-related experience as defined by DDESB TP-18 in munitions response actions or range clearance activities, as appropriate for the contracted operation.

    • Non-Exempt - The hourly rate for this position is $33.43/hour
