The Position
La Jolla LASIK Institute is seeking an ophthalmic technician. The technician will be in charge of all supplies, perform all histories and pre-testing on all consultation, preoperative, and postoperative patients.
Collects and calculates diagnostic data:
Lensmeter
Autorefractor
Pentacam
Corneal Topographer
Visual Field
Pupillometer
PAM
Clinical
Takes accurate patient history in the patient’s own words, including current meds, compliance, complaints
Consistent, accurate refractions
Accurate Intraocular pressure by tonopen and applanation
Slit lamp examination of lids, cornea, angle and
Bandage contact lens placement and removal
Provides post operative progress reports to the surgeon and/or optometrist
Takes first call with patient clinical questions and concerns
Surgical:
Prepares meticulously accurate charts for surgery
Uses our computer programs to calculate treatments for surgery and submits results in a timely fashion for surgeon approval
Assists surgeon in procedures
Prepares room and instruments for surgery and procedures
Maintains clinic and operatory in excellent order:
Maintains and monitors inventory of all medications, supplies, and medical equipment
Keeps up-to-date list of supply vendors, prices, and prepares orders for just-in-time-but-never-out
Maintains calibration log for all instruments, and schedules timely maintenance with supervisor’s approval
Monitors laser room and clinic equipment; maintains records regarding equipment service, testing and safety according to company policy and procedure.
Washes and sterilizes equipment.
Maintains excellent clinic and operative flow and schedule:
Monitors and builds an optimized clinic schedule with target less than 10 minute patient wait time, and all employees moving smoothly from patient to patient with less than 3 minutes down-time, allowing room in the schedule for team meetings and administrative time, rather than awkward 12- and 20-minute pauses throughout each clinic session.
Creates and maintains a schedule that protects doctor and team lunch break
Manages daily clinic patient flow
Manages patient flow from pre-op through surgery to post-op phase.

Like a good parent, is peaceful, quiet, caring, and calm but firm with patients and junior team members.
Is calm, honest, and a collaborator and problem-solver with peers and doctors.
Excellent accuracy skills and attention to detail.
