Job Description
An APC (Automated Production Control) Operator at NBC Connecticut is responsible for executing high quality, technical and error free newscasts in a dynamic and innovative newsroom. APC Operators are solution focused team leaders who strive for excellence and innovation. The successful candidate will be proactive, have a positive attitude and approach problems with curiosity. Reporting to the Manager of Media and Production Operations, APC Operators embrace and enhance our newsroom culture while looking to leverage technology to elevate our story telling and viewer experience.
Essential Functions
Technical preparation, coding and execution of live and recorded television news content and programming from multiple control rooms, studios and remote locations.
Give direction and timing to talent and other technicians during broadcasts and studio productions.
Operate video and graphic playout via Dalet Galaxy and Ross Xpression.
Operate robotic camera controls using Ross Cambot Software.
Operate Calrec Summa audio mixing console.
Set-up and maintain studio equipment, set pieces, and lighting.
Work with Management and Engineering staff to continually refine workflows, creating new efficiencies and capabilities.
Document technical procedures and processes.
Shape overall creative appearance of the broadcast using imaginative video, audio and graphics presentations in concert with the Content team.
Ensure Production TechOps team works together effectively and efficiently to create the show our Content partners have been planning. Work closely with the Producers to make sure the programs are professionally executed, aired on time and free from error.
Participate in station-sponsored events and all assigned special projects.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
Minimum 3 years’ experience working in a professional television production or video content creation environment
1 year experience working as a newscast Director and/or Technical Director
1 year experience hands-on work with Automated Production Control system
Eligibility Requirements
Must be a member or willing to become a member of the IBEW union.
Must be able to and willing to work any shift, 24/7, willing to work long hours, on weekends and holidays in support of our station operations as needed.
Must be willing to work in severe weather/breaking news emergencies.
Must be willing to work on-site in West Hartford, CT.
Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
Must be covered by Solutions, NBCU’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Program
Must be 18 years or older
Desired Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism/Communications or 4 years of equivalent work experience in a mid to large broadcast market.
Proficient in Dalet Galaxy, Ross OverDrive and Xpression.
Working knowledge of SSL Audio and Dante audio
Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, Premiere, Media Encoder and Photoshop as well as Microsoft O365 suite (Outlook, OneDrive, Excel, Word).
Must demonstrate ability to remain calm under pressure and think critically.
Must exhibit strong leadership skills and lead with a positive example.
Can act decisively and make priority decisions under stress and tight deadlines while maintaining our cultural standards.

Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.
