Job Title: APPLICATIONS ENGINEER – Electrical & Switchgear
Location: Remote
In this newly created position, you will be responsible for providing applications engineering support to our sales and engineering teams with a focus on three-phase power, automation and communication within low and medium voltage switchgear, applying high-level engineering concepts to solve real world problems for our clients.

Essential Functions:**
- Provide pre-order engineering support and assist with high-level design challenges. This may include generating preliminary drawings, communications diagrams, sequences of operation and bills of materials.
- Provide technical support to the design engineering team and collaborate with mechanical design and production teams to identify novel solutions for unique applications.
- Provide input to the development team on potential new products or changes to existing products.
- Provide technical/engineering input on customer plans, specifications and scope of work for new and prospective equipment orders before hand-off to the design engineering team. Ensure the product offering fits the application and the information supplied is complete.
- Assist with building a library of standard design details, tools and CAD resources for repeatable applications.
- Provide technical training on company products and applications.
Requirements:
- A BSEE or equivalent and a minimum 3 years of experience working in a design, applications or field service role with a focus on POWER PRODUCTS. This must include a solid grasp of three-phase electric power concepts including distribution systems, control and protection strategies and rotating machines.
- Solid understanding of communications hardware, topologies and protocols with emphasis on Ethernet networking, Modbus and IEC 61850.
- Familiarity with the National Electric Code and UL / IEEE standards for various types of electrical equipment (UL 891, 1558, 508A; IEEE C37.20, etc.)
- Must be a team player with strong verbal/written communication skills and self-motivated with an ability to work independently without supervision.
- PREFERRED: experience with AutoCAD, EasyPower, SEL QuickSet and Architect, Simulink, SPICE.
- A PLUS: Switchgear design experience. Ability to read and interpret mechanical assembly drawings. PLC and HMI application programming experience. Power study and protection coordination experience. Python programming experience.
