    Job Summary:

    Provides competent nursing guidance to patients during pre-surgery consultations for scheduled procedures. Collaborates with physicians, clinic schedulers, and team members to efficiently coordinate and expedite surgical scheduling. Oversees the medical clearance process and ensures effective communication among all parties involved in executing planned surgeries. Capable of delivering direct patient care as needed, following physician orders, recognized nursing standards, and legal requirements at the state and federal levels, as well as adhering to the ASC’s policies and procedures. Works cooperatively with physicians and staff, demonstrating strong teamwork, initiative, insight, and sound judgment in decision-making.

We offer state-of-the-art technology with special services ranging from primary eye care to world-class laser surgery. Our physicians were the first to offer LASIK laser vision correction in East Texas and have performed tens of thousands of procedures since its inception. Heaton Eye offers a wide range of premium lenses including Symfony Extended Depth of Focus lenses, PanOptix® lenses, and Vivity® lenses to offer freedom from glasses and contacts after cataract surgery. Our surgeons were the first in East Texas to offer the RxSight Light Adjustable Lens, the only lens implant that allows patients to preview and adjust their vision after cataract surgery. We are the first and only practice in the area offering EVO ICL, another exciting option offering patients freedom from contacts and glasses.     Certifications/Licensures:

    Registered or Licensed Nurse in the State of Texas, ACLS, CPR

    Experience:

    Prefer one to two years of perioperative nursing experience. Acceptable is one to two years of hospital nursing experience. Experience in Case Management or Patient Coordination is also a benefit.

    Education:

    Graduate of an accredited college or university school of nursing.

    Primary Job Duties:

    • Final Approval in Surgery Schedules
    • Pre-operative assessment and calls to patients 2-3 days prior to surgery
    • Evaluation and complete assessment of patient needs in providing supportive care prior to, during, and after surgery and maintains accurate and complete records
    • Communicates pertinent information to co-workers

    DIRECT PATIENT CARE:

    • Provides a safe environment for the patient to prevent potential injury.
    • Investigates and intervenes in problem situations, reporting appropriate information to supervisor and documents the same.
    • Maintains equipment and supplies to include:
      • Cleaning and disinfection of equipment
      • Operates and troubleshoots specialized equipment and patient monitoring equipment
      • Anticipates and assists with maintaining adequate inventory of supplies and medication
    • Accountable for administration of drugs using safe medical practices, IV procedures and other therapeutic and diagnostic measures in a safe and accurate manner.
    • Ensures informed signed consent is completed prior to the administration of sedation or treatment of correct operative site

    Qualifications and Skills:

    • Proficient in reading and writing the English language.
    • Proficient in medical terminology.
    • Proficient in math calculations.
    • Proficient in computer, electronic health record, and printer technology.
    • Self-motivated independent in job responsibility, ability to critically think and process information.

    Performance Standards/ Responsibilities: ****

    • Serves as point of contact for surgery scheduling and provides preoperative nursing assessment of patients; communicates with physicians, clinic and Operating Room (OR) staff
    • Collaborates with members of the surgical and multidisciplinary teams in assisting, planning and implementing surgical intervention in the management of patient’s health care preoperatively, including preoperative discharge planning
    • Use of surgery schedule to guide Pre surgery process and activity
    • Review medical record documentation for appropriateness
    • Work interdependently with others to obtain accurate medical record data and documents
    • Assure medical record chart order according to policy and procedure
    • Maintains professional knowledge and proficiency in perioperative nursing care, quality assurance and performance improvement through continuing education. Assumes responsibility of mandatory training requirements. Attends staff meetings and outside workshops
    • Participates in the orientation and preceptorship program
    • Performs other duties as assigned
