Academic Counselor - Contractor: Mandarin/English

The Academic Counselor serves as part-time bilingual tutor to Chinese students by providing high-quality academic advising. The Counselor works closely and collaboratively with both remote students and other stakeholders. The Counselor serves as a
tutor, resource and advisor about education in the United States. Each Counselor delivers a full range of student services to include academic and personal advisement and college and career counseling. The candidate must be able to positively engage students, parents, and other stakeholders in delivering services.
1. Provide academic guidance to students by helping them select appropriate courses, majors, and minors.
2. Assist students in developing long-term educational and career plans.
3. Provide personalized instruction to students and respond students' questions.
4. Monitor students' progress toward graduation, making sure they are meeting all the necessary requirements and addressing any issues that may arise.
5. Advise students in various academic areas such as subject of study, standardized tests and extracurricular activities. Assess and evaluate student progress and document student performance and progress.
6. Support and increase student awareness of resources offered by the Company and other educational resources. Support and connect students to relevant extra-curricular opportunities .
7. Communicate with the China team, natural parents, and students on academic issues via email, phone, or video, and other web-based tools.
8. Assist in the evaluation, assessment, design and implementation of academic advising initiatives including designing academic programs for international students and provide international students with recommendations.
9. Other duties as assigned.
A Bachelor's (required) or Master's degree (preferred) in education, counseling or closely related field.
Preferred 2-4 years' experience in higher education, high school guidance, college admissions consulting, counseling, teaching, advising or closely related field.
Experience in US high school as well as knowledge of Top 50 US universities will be given priority consideration
Must communicate effectively orally and in writing; one-on-one and group communication; via remote web-based tools and in person.
Must have bilingual speaking proficiency in Mandarin/English.
Flexibility required. Student advising can occur in the evenings and on weekends as needed.
