    POSITION/JOB SUMMARY:

    A Johnson Memorial Health Services Accountant provides sound accounting knowledge and practices for the healthcare facility. This job reports to the Chief Financial Officer. Additionally, the position should promote an awareness and understanding of positive ethical and moral principles consistent with the Mission, Vision, and Values of Johnson Memorial Health Services.

    This position typically works 8:00am - 4:30pm Monday through Friday.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    The JMHS accountant will assists with the coordination of various projects related to the department's finance and accounting functions to support the production of accurate, timely financial statements through assisting in preparing monthly financial statements based on general ledger trial/balance, recording monthly standard entries, and recording periodic expense and/or revenue associated with daily operations in accordance with departmental procedures and generally accepted accounting principles.

    • Prepares monthly journal entries: records monthly revenue, expense, and balance sheet activities.
    • Prepares regular recurring journal entries with supporting documentation and/or schedules, as required, to update the general ledger at the close of a period.
    • Reconciles subsidiary system activity and balances and/or business documents to general ledger control accounts in the prescribed format to demonstrate the integrity of the general ledger and to identify any correcting entries needed to properly state ledger balances
    • Compiles statements and schedules of a financial and/or statistical nature. (i.e., monthly variance reports, full-time equivalents reports, miscellaneous receivable aging analysis, and daily cash analysis).
    • Provide assistance to and communicate with various departments regarding monthly accounting reports and other accounting-related documents/information.
    • Assists management in providing acceptable records and support documents to all internal and external auditors and regulatory offices. Maintains various records, files, and supporting documentation for regulatory or other reporting purposes.
    • Keeps abreast of regulatory (federal, state) changes/information/guidelines affecting hospital/LTC/Clinic finance and accounting practice
    • Assists the Chief Financial Officer on special assignments as required. Included but not limited to: assistance in preparing monthly financial statements and additional ad hoc analysis

    ** QUALIFICATIONS**

    • Associates Degree with emphasis in Accounting, Finance, Business Management or a related field is required. Will consider two plus year of commensurate direct accounting experience in lieu of degree.
    • Previous experience in healthcare accounting is preferred.

    WORKING ENVIRONMENT

    • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals.
    • Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
    • Motion: Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding, and use of mouse; occasional reaching.
    • Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 30 pounds).
