  • Responsibilities

    Organization Overview:

    The Louisiana Organization for Refugees and Immigrants (LORI) supports refugees and immigrants in the journey of integration in Louisiana by providing programs and services to develop skills, knowledge and understanding their responsibilities to become self-reliant and civically active.

    Position Overview:

    The Accountant will be responsible for managing and reporting all aspects of LORI’s financial information.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

    Reconcile LORI’s bank statements and bookkeeping ledgers.

    Complete analysis of employees’ expenditures.

    Manage monthly credit card statements.

    Prepare and run company payroll

    Analyze and present LORI’s financial reports by using income and expenditure data.

    Investigate and reconcile discrepancies in accounts receivables and payables.

    Coordinate and lead the annual audit process.

    Manage LORI’s cash flow and budget forecasting.

    Maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures to the Executive Director

    Maintain accurate records, including journals, ledgers, receipts, and invoices.

    Deposits into LORI’s banking account

    Prepare and make deposits, as well as preparing statements for review.

    Produce monthly financial statements.

    Manage and maintain employee personnel files

    Support the development of the annual organization budget for Board approval.

    Support the annual financial auditing process and quarterly internal reviews.

    Required Qualifications/Skills:

    Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.

    Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in accounting and/or finance.

    Knowledge of and proficiency in Microsoft Office and accounting and reporting software. (QuickBooks, Onpay, ADP, etc.)

    Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of LORI’s financial information.

    Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles and practices and reporting of financial data.

    Experience with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to ensure compliance.

    Demonstrated personal dedication and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

    Possess strong organizational skills, disciplined, focused, and detailed-oriented with experience in establishing and implementing systems for organizing and managing campaigns, while also being adaptive and agile.

    Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment while being goal-oriented, ability to work independently or as a team, ability to assume multiple roles, ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

    Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and irregular hours when required. (compensatory time off provided in such instances).

    Preferred Qualifications/Skills:

    Master’s degree in accounting or finance.

    Certified Nonprofit Accounting Professional (CNAP)

    Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

    Personal lived experiences that contribute to a genuine understanding of the challenges faced by vulnerable refugees and immigrants.
