Our client, a boutique law firm in Hilton Head, SC, seeks a part-time (30 hours/week, ideally 9am-3pm) experienced and detail-oriented Accounting & Operations Manager to oversee the firm's day-to-day financial operations in the office, including trust and operating account management, client billing, vendor payments, payroll, benefits administration, and operational support. This is a hands-on role ideal for a proactive, tech-savvy professional who thrives in a fast-paced legal environment and enjoys wearing many hats.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage daily banking activities and bank feed reconciliation across multiple accounts, including daily deposits
- Oversee trust and operating account compliance using CosmoLex
- Administer all vendor payments, recurring bills, and internal reimbursements
- Coordinate monthly billing cycle, pre-bills, and client invoicing
- Handle retainer transfers and deposits; manage accounts receivable and collections
- Liaise with external bookkeepers for monthly reconciliations and journal entries
- Manage bi-monthly payroll, manage 401K compliance and benefits updates
- Support HR onboarding and compliance tasks; maintain employee files and E-Verify
- Oversee firm technology needs, licenses, insurances contracts, and office vendors
- Maintain detailed financial records, budgets, and compliance requirements
- Provide marketing support as needed, including liaising with website and marketing vendor
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a legal or professional services setting
- Strong working knowledge of accounting principles and legal billing
- Prior experience with CosmoLex or similar legal accounting software
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently
- Strong communication and client service skills
