The Role
The Accounting Specialist supports key operational accounting processes, ensures compliance with financial standards, and contributes to the strengthening of internal financial systems. This role helps enable Partners Worldwide to effectively and sustainably execute its Global Strategy.
The Work
Accounting Operations
- Record journal entries for day-to-day accounting processes
- Assist with reconciliations and month-end duties
- Process payroll, accounts payable, and donor contributions
- Collaborate with the finance team to ensure compliance with US GAAP and internal policies
Compliance and Audit Support
- Assist in the preparation of financial records for Partners Worldwide and its affiliates' annual audits
- Maintain compliance documentation for financial and operational activities
Collaboration and Reporting
- Support the Accounting Supervisor in preparing financial reports for the Board of Directors and the global leadership team
- Support the Global Operations team with transactions, questions, and reporting, as needed
Special Projects and Process Improvements
- Collaborate with the finance team during the annual budgeting and planning process
- Participate in the evaluation and implementation of accounting software and financial systems
- Collaborate on process improvement projects to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial operations
- Provide financial support for grant management and reporting as needed
Your Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- 1-3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit or global organization
- Familiarity with nonprofit financial management, including fund accounting and compliance
- Understanding of payroll processing, accounts payable/receivable, and financial reconciliations
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics; Emburse Certify; Salesforce; Power BI) and Microsoft Excel
- Experience supporting financial audits and managing donor compliance
