    Life Engagement Assistant Job Summary:

    Life Engagement Assistant is responsible for planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating a program of therapeutic recreational activities for Independent and assisted living residents. The Lifestyles Assistant shall establish, promote, and support programs fostering enjoyment and the basic concepts of wellness, to maintain Residents at their maximum potential level of functioning. The program shall maintain a balance of program activities that facilitate physical and mental stimulation including education, fitness, creative and performing arts, and crafts.

    Essential Functions:

    The following essential functions are normal for this position. This list is not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

    General Duties:

    • Support mission, vision, and goals of the organization, upholding and promoting company culture and vision.

    • Plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate programs of therapeutic recreational activities (including evening and weekend activities) for Independent and Assisted Living Residents. Ensure programming meets minimum requirements under regulations governing relevant Senior Living communities.

    • Consult with other departments in implementing appropriate activities relating to the physical, emotional, and Lifestyle needs of Independent and Assisted Living Residents.

    • Assist in coordinating transportation and accompany Residents on outings as scheduled.

    • Develop and post a monthly schedule of Resident activities by the first day of the month. Maintain a record of

    activities for twelve calendar months at all times. Make records available to regulatory agencies upon request.

    • Assist with the volunteer program to meet the program needs of Independent and Assisted Living Residents.

    • Monitor and maintain budgetary records for the department, as assigned.

    • Coordinate with other staff members relating to scheduling of events and use of the community.

    • Assist in the preparation of the monthly Community newsletter. Assist with planning, organizing, and functioning of various Resident committees.

    • Obtain and demonstrate knowledge of the Discover Your Spark Lifestyle and Wellness philosophy and its inherent core values. Support and participate in Discover Your Spark e.g. assist with feedback groups, assist in new initiatives, encourage Residents and act as champions of fun).

    Driver Responsibilities:

    Based on community needs the Lifestyles Assistant may assist with the following driver responsibilities:

    • Confirm transportation schedule as designated by the Life Engagement Director - date, time, type, locations, and directions. Transport Residents to and from activities / errands in safe, organized, and responsible fashion.

    • Communicate with Residents at least 24 hours prior to departure to clarify times and route.

    • Maintain company owned vehicles to keep them in safe, and efficient working order. Inform Life Engagement Director of any maintenance issues concerning the vehicles.

    • Fuel vehicles as needed and provide gas receipts to the Life Engagement Director or appropriate Lifestyle staff for processing.

    Safety and Sanitation:

    • Understand and follow safety and infection control policies and procedures.

    • Follow established procedures in the use and disposal of personal protective equipment.

    • Wear and/or use safety equipment and supplies (e.g., gait belt, back brace, mechanical lifts, etc.) when lifting or moving residents, as applicable to your position.

    • Keep floors dry. Report spills immediately.

    • Report all hazardous conditions and equipment problems to the supervisor immediately.

    • Assist housekeeping in maintaining offices and common areas ensuring rooms are safe, comfortable, attractive and orderly.

    Training:

    • Attends in-service and staff meetings and education programs.

    • Continue to develop job-related knowledge, skills, and abilities by participating in continuing educational

    opportunities for personal growth and development.

    Resident Rights:

    • Promotes and protects residents’ rights, assists residents in making informed decisions, treats residents with dignity and respect, and supports residents’ independent expression, choice and decision-making consistent with all pertinent laws regarding residents’ rights. Reports suspected abuse or neglect in accordance with applicable law and regulations.

    Other:

    • Perform other related duties as assigned

    Desired Skills and Experience:

    • Ability to work with the elderly in a courteous and friendly manner, demonstrating patience and compassion, flexibility and adaptability. Ability to perform duties with consideration for Residents’ rights at all times and demonstrate integrity and discretion in the care of Residents and in handling their health information. Creative, organized, and motivated. Comfortable in public speaking.

    • Ability to evaluate the status of individuals and set up therapeutic programs that are safe and effective. Experience working with special needs populations. Knowledge of practices and procedures, laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to long-term care. Computer literate with good organizational skills.

    Required Education and Experience:

    • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)

    • Prefer Certified Activity Professional or equivalent

    • At least 3 years of progressively responsible work experience in the senior living industry or related field.

    • Valid State of Residence Driver’s License with safe driving record (as applicable)

    While performing the duties of this Job, the Associate is regularly required to on a daily basis, throughout the workday:

    Must be capable of sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, reaching, turning, bending, stooping, crouching and kneeling, reaching over the head, grasping with both hands, and fine manipulation. Must physically be able to lift up to 25 pounds unassisted. Must have normal eyesight or use corrective lenses. Must have three-dimensional vision and ability to judge distances and spatial relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are. Must be able to recognize colors. Must be able to hear and distinguish between normal tones and be able to perceive the nature of sounds. Must be able to exchange ideas by means of the spoken word as well as engage in activities to convey detailed or spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, and/or quickly. Must have a normal sense of touch and smell.

    Language Ability:

    • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills utilizing the English language.

    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence via print and email.

    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.

    Mathematical Skills:

    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

    • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.

    Cognitive Demands:

    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

    • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

    Computer Skills:

    • Ability to use Microsoft Office Programs.

    • Ability to use the Internet and online-based databases.

    Environmental Adaptability:

    • Works primarily indoors in a climate-controlled setting.

    • Must be able to tolerate exposure to dust, fumes, odors, water, etc., as well as noise, heights, and confined spaces. When outside, must be able to tolerate exposure to weather, fluctuations in temperature (hot, cold), wet and/or humid conditions

    • Associates may be exposed to blood and/or body fluids with potential exposure to hazardous materials and infectious diseases.

    • Possible exposure to unpleasant odors.

    • Possible exposure to chemicals as identified in the MDS Manual.

    • Continuous exposure to residents who are ill, confused, irritable, and irrational
