    Job Description

    The Memory Care Activity Assistant is responsible for supporting the planning and facilitation of recreational, cognitive, and physical activities for residents in the memory care unit. This position works closely with the Memory Care Director and the interdisciplinary care team to ensure residents are engaged, stimulated, and provided with meaningful experiences to enhance their quality of life.

    • Activity Facilitation:
    * Assist in the planning, organization, and implementation of a wide range of activities including, but not limited to, arts and crafts, music therapy, games, exercise programs, and outdoor activities.
    
    * Ensure activities are tailored to meet the cognitive and physical abilities of the residents.
    
    * Lead small group activities and assist in large group programs to promote socialization and engagement.
    
    • Individualized Attention:
    * Provide one-on-one engagement with residents who may require more personalized interaction, including reading, reminiscing, and stimulating conversation.
    
    * Offer emotional support and encouragement to residents during activities, helping to foster a sense of accomplishment and purpose.
    
    • Documentation & Reporting:
    * Accurately document residents’ participation, behavior, and reactions to activities in the appropriate records.
    
    * Report any concerns or changes in a resident’s behavior to the Memory Care Director or nursing staff.
    
    • Safety & Monitoring:
    * Ensure a safe and clean environment for residents during activities, adhering to safety guidelines and protocols.
    
    * Supervise residents during activities to prevent accidents and ensure their comfort.
    
    • Collaboration with Care Team:
    * Communicate regularly with nursing staff, therapists, and other caregivers to ensure activities align with each resident’s care plan.
    
    * Participate in team meetings to discuss the needs and progress of memory care residents.
    
    • Creativity & Innovation:
    * Contribute creative ideas for new activities that can engage residents in meaningful ways, keeping their cognitive and emotional well-being in mind.
    
    • Specialized Memory Care Techniques:
    * Utilize memory care techniques such as reminiscence therapy, sensory stimulation, and structured routines to enhance residents’ engagement.
    
    * Adapt activities based on residents’ specific needs and abilities related to dementia or other cognitive impairments.
    
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • EXPERIENCE in working with elderly populations, particularly those with dementia or Alzheimer's disease, is highly preferred.
    • EXCELLENT communication skills (e.g. face-to-face, in-person, phone) – You will be working with a variety of people and departments, so it’s critical that you enjoy interacting with others on a daily basis and are comfortable speaking in front of small groups.
    • INCREDIBLE detail-orientation – It’s the little things that count!
    • SELF-DIRECTED – Must be able to take a project, run with it, and (ideally) exceed expectations by anticipating needs
    • KNOWLEDGE of memory care techniques and dementia-related challenges (preferred).
    • CREATIVITY – We’re outside-the-box thinkers around here.
    • MALLEABILITY – We move FAST. Things change, we adapt, and we propel ourselves forward.
    • ORGANIZATION – We juggle a bazillion balls and wear a lot of hats (No, we don’t moonlight as clowns, but you’ll need to stay organized to play well on this team)

    Additional Information

    • Work Schedule: Part-time position on Sundays and Mondays . The schedule may include evenings, weekends, or holidays depending on facility needs.
