    Job Description:

    I. Summary /Objective

    Under the general supervision of the Clinical Director, the addictions counselor provides assessment, education, and counseling on chemical dependency, co-occurring disorders and relapse prevention to consumers and their families. Responsible for matching individuals with clinically indicated treatment deemed appropriate at the time of the initial assessment and ongoing assessments thereafter. Collaborates regarding treatment with the consumer's psychiatrist, therapist, or other health care providers to provide a holistic treatment approach.

    II. Essential Functions

    1. Completing comprehensive assessments of client’s substance use history, meeting treatment requirements by providing appropriate diagnosis and level of care placement, prepare individualized developmentally appropriate treatment plans based on ASAM criteria.

    2. Provide evidence-based practices that meet the regulating agencies requirements when providing individual sessions, group counseling, and provide addiction/ mental health education in accordance with CARF/COMAR regulations,

    3. Document treatment provided and discharge plans, clients progress, and response to treatment, as well as maintaining related records and charts in EMR system based on COMAR and CARF requirements

    4. Develop and write treatment plans based on the consumer assessment, encourage consumer engagement, ensure timely clinical information from intake to discharge, make appropriate referrals, assure continuity of care to meet the consumer's needs,

    5. Caseload typically includes some complex cases requiring more intensive services, weekly supervision is required to discuss team collaboration, team meetings are mandatory,

    6. Other duties as assigned by the Clinical Director.

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

    This is a full-time position. Days and hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

    Required Education and Experience:

    Work requires knowledge of chemical dependency, psychiatric diagnoses and treatment, crisis intervention methods and counseling techniques - normally acquired through a minimum associates degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or related areas.

    Must have and maintain certification as an LCADC, CSC-AD, CAC-AD, ADT, or licensure as LMSW/LGPC including but not limited to CPR, and First Aid in the State of Maryland.

    Must possess analytical skills sufficient to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when conducting an assessment and therapy sessions, making treatment recommendations, and providing crisis intervention services.

    Ability to establish and maintain effective therapeutic relationships and professional boundaries with staff, consumers, and their families.
