OVERVIEW Instructors at South Baltimore Adult High School (SBAHS) provide instruction to adult learners seeking to earn their high school diploma. This role requires creating an engaging and supportive learning environment tailored to the unique needs of adult students. The instructor will teach one or more subject areas, following the curriculum and standards set by the school and Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), and will play a critical role in helping students achieve academic success and prepare for post-secondary education, career advancement, and personal development.
This posting is for a Math instructor. As a Math instructor, you are responsible for the planning and delivery of quality instruction, assessment and student progress in high school Math courses. These courses are designed to be responsive to the needs and expectations of the diverse community and students we serve. Our goal is to apply a student-focused approach in helping students plan for their career and learning goals.
Instructors will receive direct supervision from the Program Manager of South Baltimore Adult High School
Tasks and Responsibilities
Support program goals and follow guidelines, procedures, and responsibilities
Engage peers and colleagues in regular communication with the intent of fostering an open dialogue and healthy exchange of ideas.
Plan, design, and deliver adult learner-centered instruction to meet the needs of each learner
Assess learning and monitor progress and integrate technology into instruction
Maintain knowledge base and pursue professional development specifically related to the instruction of adult learners

Work Environment
Physical Demands and Work Environment This position typically works indoors in a standard classroom or virtual environment, generally free from hazardous or unpleasant physical conditions. Work involves minimal risk and observance of safety precautions typical of school or office settings.
The work entails sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping and reaching. Work requires hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, near vision acuity, and the ability to see and read printed material and computer screens. Duties involve oral, written, electronic and telephonic communication; typing; and lifting and transporting supplies/materials. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions.
The classroom environment is highly diverse and demands a high level of cultural competence in interpersonal communications and interactions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field required.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching at the high school or adult education level required.
Valid Maryland state teaching certification for secondary education (high school level) is strongly preferred.
Experience teaching in adult education or alternative education settings preferred.
Experience working with high school curriculum preferred.
Familiarity with high school equivalency programs (GED®, NEDP®) and career readiness initiatives is a plus.
Bilingual (fluent) in English and Spanish is huge plus!
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree
Valid standard professional teaching certificate appropriate to the subject you will teach for us

Strong understanding of adult learning principles and strategies.
Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the varied needs of adult learners.
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency with technology and educational software to enhance learning.
Patience, empathy, and a passion for helping adult learners succeed.
HOURS
The instructor may teach evening or weekend classes to accommodate adult students' schedules.
Instructors work about 9-12 hours per week.
Occasional participation in school events, professional development, or extracurricular activities may be required.
COMPENSATION The pay rate for this position is $30 per hour. Instructor hours will vary based on student needs and school requirements.
