    Job Description

    This position serves in support of the US Air Force life support contract for Wake Island located in the Pacific. The purpose of this position is to provide urgent care medical support to contracted and DOD personnel that are stationed on the Island.

    The Advanced EMT or Paramedic will utilize their knowledge and proficiency in evidenced-based medical practice and International SOS protocols to manage unexpected and emergent situations and treat a variety of injuries and illnesses promptly and professionally. The Advanced EMT or Paramedic will serve as the first point of contact for patients being seen for their urgent care needs. They will also be responsible for clinic upkeep and to support the physician. They will competently function as a member of the team to provide patient-centered medical care on the project.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provides 24/7 response for emergencies that require medical support on the island.
    • Provide medical care outside of the clinic during emergencies at the level of care of an NREMT Advanced EMT or Paramedic within scope of practice.
    • Receives patients at the clinic during regular business hours (8 am – 4 pm).
    • Assist medical providers with medical procedures and treatments as allowed within the licensed scope of work.
    • Assessment and documentation of the patient’s vital signs, chief complaint, medical history, and prescribed medications.
    • Report all changes in the patient’s condition to the medical provider.
    • Proactively and independently provide care within the standing orders and SOPs without exceeding your licensed scope of practice.,
    • Assist patients with basic care and activities of daily living, as needed.
    • Provides support and education to help patients make responsible health decisions.
    • Maintains clinic supply inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level and anticipating needed supplies. Ordering supplies.
    • Provide education to the client on First aid/ Emergency response as requested.
    • Participates in training exercises as required by the client.
    • Restocking once supplies are received as well as assisting other clinic operators with restocking.
    • Prepares patient for shipment to the USG IAW the contract.
    • Ensures that medical equipment is within required calibration timelines.
    • Serves as the property management user for the company’s property system.
    • Assist the physician with the coordination of medical evacuations as required.

    Required Skills and Knowledge

    • Ability to assess and treat adult patients in pre-hospital settings.
    • Ability to successfully perform ALS interventions in accordance with protocols
    • Ability to administer medication in adult patients in accordance with protocols.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
    • Proficient IT skills including the use of electronic medical records systems.

    Essential Capabilities

    • Ability to function with accuracy and efficiency in high-pressure or emergent situations.
    • Ability to respond calmly in emergencies.
    • Cultural sensitivity and awareness with the willingness to work with a foreign national patient population.
    • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to effectively work with persons of diverse age and economic backgrounds in a culturally competent manner.
    • Must be able to manage and provide concise directions to supporting staff.
    • Ability to quickly adapt to changing work conditions and responsibilities.

    Required Work Experience

    • Minimum of 1 year of Advanced EMT or Paramedic experience in a busy 911 system.
    • Experience in an Urgent Care clinic setting or free-standing ER preferred.
    • Experience in a remote setting is preferred.
    • Held a military occupation specialty of Army Health Care Specialist, Navy Corpsman, Air Force Medical specialist, or another Uniformed Services equivalent is Preferred.

    Qualifications

    • A current unrestricted US license as an Advanced EMT or Paramedic is required.
    • Possession of an Advanced Level Certification AEMT or EMT-P from the National Registry (NREMT) is required.
    • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required.
    • Tactical Combat Casualty Care or Pre-Hospital Trauma Course is preferred.
    • BLS instructor certification preferred.

    Travel / Rotation Requirements

    • US Citizen.
    • On-call requirements as part of a rotation.
    • This position is unaccompanied.
    • Must be able to obtain a DOD clearance.
    • Must be able to relocate to the site location for the duration of the contract.
    • A valid passport is required and must be in your possession before relocation. You must maintain a current passport during the contract.

    Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographical market data.
