Position Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and creative After-School Art Teacher to inspire and engage children in a dynamic, hands-on art curriculum. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in visual arts and a deep commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and creative environment. This position will be responsible for teaching art techniques, encouraging self-expression, and guiding students through projects that explore various media and artistic styles.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching & Instruction:
Plan and implement engaging art lessons for students aged 5-10 years old in an after-school setting.
Introduce students to a variety of artistic techniques and mediums (drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, etc.) to promote skill development and creative expression.
Tailor lessons to accommodate varying skill levels and ensure all students are challenged and supported.
Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages students to express themselves freely.
Classroom Management:
Create a safe and orderly environment for students to explore and create.
Manage classroom behavior effectively and keep students engaged throughout the lesson.
Ensure proper use and care of art supplies and materials.
Student Development:
Provide individualized attention and constructive feedback to help students develop their artistic abilities.
Encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity in students’ work.
Help students build confidence in their artistic abilities and express their ideas.
Administrative Duties:
Maintain accurate attendance records.
Communicate regularly with parents or guardians about student progress and achievements.
Assist in the preparation and display of student artwork for exhibitions or showcases.
Collaboration & Professional Growth:
Work closely with the After-School Program Coordinator to ensure that art lessons align with the overall after-school program goals.
Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with art education trends and techniques.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field (preferred).
Previous experience teaching art to children, ideally in an after-school or extracurricular setting.
Strong knowledge of various artistic techniques, materials, and mediums.
Ability to manage a classroom effectively and work with diverse groups of children.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
A passion for working with children and helping them express themselves through art.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with students with varying abilities and needs.
Certification in First Aid and CPR (or willingness to obtain).
Background in a particular art form (e.g., sculpture, digital art, etc.) that could enhance the program.
Work Schedule:
This position requires availability Monday-Friday from 1pm-6pm for after-school hours.
Occasional weekend or evening hours may be required for special events, exhibitions, or performances.
