    The Safety & Compliance Manager will be responsible for confirming that the Digit robot meets all safety, compliance rules, regulations, and requirements to support commercial deployments in multiple international markets. As a key member of the Product and Engineering teams, the Safety & Compliance Manager will promote a culture of safety and compliance at the company and ensure that safety and compliance product requirements are captured and implemented during the design phase of product development. 

    Responsibilities:

    • Understand, promote, represent, and translate product requirements pertaining to the US and International standards for:

      • EMC / EMI and Radio transmissions (e.g. FCC Part B, IEC 61000, EMC Directive 2014/30/EU) and related test equipment.

      • Safety standards (e.g. ISO/TS 15066:2016, ISO 13849, Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, OSHA, REACH, Batteries/WEEE, etc.) and related test equipment.

    • Maintain knowledge of the most current EMC, electrical & mechanical safety, and functional safety & compliance standards

    • Review existing product designs for adherence to good safety and compliance practices regarding functional safety, firmware, PCB, wiring, grounding, enclosures, mechanical assemblies, etc.

    • Work with product, engineering, and management teams to develop our compliance strategy and road map

    • Develop and implement plans for agency certifications of standards compliance

    • Develop test methods and protocols for testing, then execute product testing

    • Conduct experiments of product prototypes, including experiment setup, execution, detailed data recording, and data summarization.

    • Support test equipment used in-house for evaluations; perform pre-compliance testing in external test labs and in-house.

    • Work with test labs in arranging product compliance testing - prepare product documents and support product testing; compile and maintain internal reports and lab reports.

    • Present, discuss and review safety and compliance specifications in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.

    • Balance between the perfect technical solution, safety and compliance standards, and business risk.

    • Present product requirements and recommendations to product management based on known safety and compliance regulations and standards

     QUALIFICATIONS:

    • 10+ years of product safety and compliance or comparable experience.

    • BS in Mechanical, Electrical, Robotic Engineering, and/or at least an equivalent years’ relevant industry experience focused on engineering compliance.

    • Proven track record of successfully attaining engineering compliance goals and developing and executing engineering compliance programs.

    • Experience with a range of domestic and nondomestic mechanical and electrical engineering requirements (e.g., Machinery, Radio, EMC, Functional Safety, Machine Safety, etc.).

    • Experience with an array of domestic and nondomestic engineering-related environmental, health, and safety requirements (e.g., OSHA, European RoHS, REACH, Batteries/WEEE, etc.).

    • Experience with the US and International EMC / EMI and radio standards (e.g. FCC Part B, IEC 61000, EMC Directive 2014/30/EU) and related test equipment.

    • Experience with US and International safety standards (e.g. NFPA79, Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC) and related test equipment.

    • Experience working with TUV Rheinland, TUV SUD and other Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories

    • Comfortable working on cross-functional teams of product management, project management, and cross-functional engineering teams.

    • Demonstrated engineering creativity, entrepreneurial spirit, and ability to prioritize and multi-task.

    • Strong team player and comfortable leading small groups of engineers and designers.

    • Demonstrated ability to own an assignment and see it through to completion.

    • Skilled in the areas of schedule and cost estimation.

    • A keen design eye and experience reviewing others’ design work is a plus.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

    • Ability to travel when necessary (less than 10%)
