Job Title: Alabama First Class Pre-K Auxiliary Teacher
Job Classification: Salary, Non-Exempt Location: KinderKids Learning Center, County Road 64 Location Reports To: Center Director and Program Director
Position Summary
The Auxiliary Teacher is responsible for supporting the Lead Teacher in delivering a safe, high-quality, and developmentally appropriate preschool program in accordance with Office of School Readiness (OSR) guidelines. This position includes 187 days of service: 180 instructional days and 7 days dedicated to pre/post planning and staff training. It requires 7.5 hours of work per day, with 6.5 hours of instruction and 1 hour of planning with the Lead Teacher.
Essential Functions
Curriculum Implementation:
Assist in delivering a comprehensive curriculum with lesson plans and materials that promote learning and innovation.
Foster a developmentally appropriate classroom environment that supports children’s learning, growth, and exploration.
Assisting Lead Teacher with meeting all OSR classroom requirements including documentation, curriculum implementation, and entering information into Gold
Working with First Class Pre K monitors and coaches as needed throughout the program year.
Classroom Management:
Maintain a safe and structured environment with clear rules for safety and mutual respect.
Use age-appropriate discipline methods and demonstrate knowledge of child development.
Serve as a positive role model, encouraging respectful behavior and positive social interactions.
Employ CLASS teaching techniques to manage classroom behaviors and promote positive discipline.
Parental Communication:
Provide daily updates to parents about classroom activities and their child’s progress.
Ensure timely communication while maintaining confidentiality of records, emergency contacts, and sensitive information.
Professional Development:
Actively participate in ongoing professional development, in-service training, and educational opportunities provided by the YMCA or other approved sources.
Collaborate with the Lead Teacher, Program Director, and OSR teaching coach to implement best practices and meet program requirements.
Additional Responsibilities:
Comply with OSR policies and procedures, supporting the program’s mission and goals.
Attend and actively participate in activities outside of regular program hours, including special events, staff meetings, and trainings, as directed by the Center Director.
Assist in maintaining childcare licensing ratios as needed, even outside scheduled Pre-K hours.
Perform any additional tasks as requested by the Program Director, Lead Teacher, or OSR teaching coach.
Possess a strong team mentality and work well with others to collaborate on continuous improvement plans for the KinderKids Learning Center, Inc.
Position Requirements
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must hold a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or at least 9 credit hours in Early Childhood Education or Child Development from a regionally accredited institution.
Must meet all Alabama Child Care Licensing annual training requirements.
Preferred candidate will have at least 2 years of experience as a First Class Pre-K Auxiliary Teacher within a licensed childcare center.
Must pass a satisfactory criminal background check, Child Abuse and Neglect (CAN) background check, and fingerprinting.
Physical Demands
Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and perform activities requiring repetitive bending, stooping, and standing.
Ability to move quickly to ensure the safety and supervision of children during indoor and outdoor activities.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: OSR Base Salary $22,440
