    Position Summary: This position works closely with patients to provide patient care, perform allergy testing as ordered by the physician, and all other activities related to the overall assessment and management of allergies under direction of the physician.

    Essential Functions:

    To accomplish this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

    · Work with allergy clinic personnel to insure the smooth flow of patients within the allergy clinic.

    · Introduce patients to allergy, methods of allergy testing, and methods of allergy treatment including, but not limited to, immunotherapy in the form of subcutaneous allergy shots or sublingual allergy drops.

    · Provide verbal and written patient education as appropriate for patient’s individual need.

    · Perform allergy testing via RAST for inhalant or food allergens, Prick, or SET testing for inhalant allergens as ordered by the physician.

    · Follow universal precautions for venipuncture and handling of blood specimens when necessary.

    · Administer allergy serum only upon verification of patient’s name and date of birth.

    · Record all pertinent patient information on allergy forms or input in the EMR as appropriate.

    · Remain alert to patients’ status and quickly identify any indication of need for urgent or emergent interventions.

    · Mix allergy serum for immunotherapy following sterile precautions and precision of measurement.

    · Responsible for developing, providing, and mailing vials and all pertinent information for offices authorized for adjunct administration of serum.

    · Review allergy test results and physician recommendations with patient.

    · Respond to patient messages in a timely manner.

    · Responsible for e-scribe prescriptions for epinephrine injectors to the appropriate pharmacy for current allergy patients per established protocol.

    · Check supplies, order supplies, and maintain an appropriate inventory of supplies with which to provide patient care.

    · Assist in formulating and implementing policies and procedures.

    · Participate in in-service and training modalities and continuing education.

    Education and Experience:

    · High school education or GED equivalent.

    · Medical Assistant, CNA or Nurse certification is required.

    · Minimum two years of medical practice experience.

    · Working knowledge of general office duties.

    · Possesses the tact to deal effectively with patients, physicians, and other employees in the practice as well as insurance carriers.

    · Working knowledge of contracted insurance plans.

    · Knowledge of various insurance plans/payers (HMO, PPO, Medicare, Medicaid) is required.

    · Working knowledge of Insurance verification.

    · Working knowledge of obtaining the copayment and deductible amounts for the visit.

    · Good verbal and written communication skills.

    · Good telephone communication skills.

    · Demonstrated ability to use a computer with Microsoft Word, Outlook and EMR software.

    · Excellent customer service is required.

    · Ability to maintain confidentiality and thorough knowledge of HIPPA policies and procedures.

    · Willingness to take responsibility for actions, act positively upon feedback from others.

    Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance.

    · Environmentally controlled medical office environment

    · Occasional standing, walking, reaching, bending, stooping, lifting, and carrying.

    · Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds.

    · Frequent use of computer, keyboard, copy and fax machine, and phone.
