McKean Defense is seeking qualified candidates to support the US Navy Diesel Program as an Engineering Technician in support of the Diesel Readiness System (DRS) program for the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Philadelphia Division In-Service Engineering Agent (ISEA) located. The objective of the DRS program is to improve and sustain the operational availability of the US Navy fleet diesel engines through condition based maintenance and planning lifecycle maintenance requirements into the class maintenance plan. Responsibilities include on-site representation for a ship class/location as the ISEAs representation for directed conditional based maintenance and availability planning support/recommendations. Candidate will work closely with the ISEA and Fleet.
Responsibilities include:
Provide engineering, technical and programmatic support as follows in the fleet concentration areas of San Diego, CA:
Applicable ship classes and engines: LCS 1 & 2 Class MPDEs and SSDGs
Provide DRS program engineering and technical support.
- Conduct monthly reviews of Diesel Engine Performance Assessment (DEPA) data and provide report of findings with technical recommendations.
- Support Integrated Propulsion Plant Alignment Procedure (IPPAP) diesel assessments and provide technical report summary of assessment.
- Input/update diesel logs and maintenance records within the Shipboard Automated Maintenance Manager (SAMM). .
- Provide DRS training to ships crews.
- Provide on-site and remote technical expertise to support periodic equipment assessments, inspections, grooms and onboard testing evolutions.
- Provide supply, provisioning and maintenance support for the shipboard and shore-based stock of Diesel Doctor equipment and components.
Provide technical support for NSWCPD DRS fluid quality monitoring efforts.
Provide program, technical and logistics support.
- Provide inputs and redlines for technical and logistics documentation impacted by DRS program efforts and execution, including but not limited to tech manuals, handbooks, maintenance standards, PMS and EOSS procedures and APLs.
- Prepare technical presentations, white papers, analytical reports and performance metrics related to the DRS Program
- Support and attend program reviews, executive steering committee meetings, Owners Group meetings, refresher training seminars and other technical meetings and conferences.
Required Skills
- Review, maintain, correct and input data to all modules of the Shipboard Automated Maintenance Manager (SAMM).
- Review and analyze Diesel Engine Performance Analysis (DEPA) data, including identifying trends and providing recommendations.
- Develop report that shows reliability metrics for DRS modules reporting.
- Provide shipboard technical oversight for diesel engine and associated systems.
- Conduct forensic analysis of failed diesel engines and diesel engine components to determine the root cause(s) of failure(s).
- On-site technical support to perform propulsion and power generation direct fleet support including periodic equipment assessments, inspections, grooms and shipboard testing evolutions
- Shipboard technical support for alterations, modifications and upgrades.
- Doctor equipment failure analysis, maintenance, repair, and procurement.
- Review of shipboard diesel engine material history database for each assigned hull
- Assist with developing and presenting metrics and presentations to display and present the afore mentioned data review
- Assist with development of Baseline Availability Work Packages (BAWP)
- Deck plate training of US Navy crews in the use and importance of DRS
- Research and presentation of technical inputs for preparation of Diesel Technical Directive
Required Experience
- Minimum five (5) years of US Navy Engineman experience in the area of diesel propulsion and power generating systems. Personnel should have a minimum of one (1) year of experience with US Navy diesel engine applications, specifically FM-Pielstick, FMOP, Caterpillar, MTU, Isotta Fraschini and/or Paxman engine lines.
- DRS Program experience
- Preferred experience as a certified Navy Fleet Diesel Engine Inspector (DEI) and/or an OEM Technical Service Representative.
- Preferred experience with the use of the Shipboard Automated Maintenance Manager (SAMM) software; diesel engine performance analysis (DEPA) data collection, reviewing and analyzing engine data to provide technical recommendations, performing engine balance/grooming events.
- Up to 25% travel.
