Must have experience welding fabricated cast or forged components.
- Welds parts in position for fabrication of vessels, tanks or other structural assemblies.
- Uses carbon electrodes to cut, shape, and groove metal.
- May prepare workplace for welding by cleaning and/or preheating.
- Examines weld sizes of weld beads.
Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position. Actively participates in continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, improve quality, reduce cycle time, and reduce costs.
Required Education and Experience
- High school education/equivalent preferred.
- Knowledge of shipbuilding processes and procedures preferred.
- Must have at least 3 years previous welding experience as a journeyman
- Ability to understand verbal and written instructions and required to communicate effectively in English.
Assessment
The following hands on assessment will be conducted:
1\. Carbon Steel - FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding) Welding process in the horizontal, vertical and overhead position (2G, 3G and 4G) with fillet, V-groove butt joints and ceramic butt joints.
2\. Aluminum GMAW – MIG welding process in Horizontal, vertical and overhead position (2G, 3G and 4G)
All plates will be assessed using the bend and x-ray method.
Unique/Additional Requirements
- Must be able to work all shifts and at heights.
- Must show at least two years of continuous, stable and verifiable employment.
- Construction or manufacturing background preferred and have strong mechanical skills.
- Frequent carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, manual dexterity, reaching, seeing, hearing, occasional kneeling, reclining and finger dexterity.
- Maintain safety awareness and ability to follow directions.
