American Youth Academy is an Islamic-based private school located in Tampa, Florida, one of the fastest-growing communities in the entire country. AYA was established in 1992 and currently serves 650 students grades pre-K through 12, increasing every year. One of AYA's top priorities is to create an environment and structure that allows all students to engage in experiences that prepare them for the future. As enrollment continues to grow, we are looking for additional staff and administrators to join our team to help us with our next step into the future.
Qualifications:
A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Arabic/Islamic studies or a Master's degree from an accredited institution in a related field (preferred).
Ijaza (Certification) in teaching and memorization of Quran with Tajweed and meet any other credentialing requirements.
Ability to encourage and inspire the students to love the Quran
Have a good understanding of the Quran and the English language.
Exemplify strong Islamic character and possess sound knowledge of Islam
The candidate must be eligible to work in the United States.

Job Goal
The Islamic Studies teacher provides Islamic Studies instruction to students in grades ranging from Pre-K to 12th grade. This teacher creates an educational atmosphere where students are granted the opportunity to fulfill their potential of becoming knowledgeable and productive Muslims. The teacher is the role model and mentor of children and should aim to lead students to discover the beauty of Islam to apply knowledge into beneficial actions.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Employing effective pedagogy that enables children to become successful lifelong learners who can become future leaders of their communities by:
Empowering children to become or prepare to be independent learners, not relying on the teacher as the only source of information.
Encouraging students to be critical thinkers, involving students actively in pursuing open-ended and relevant units of inquiry, and maintaining a supportive climate for the needs of native and second language learners.
Demonstrating a high level of relevant curriculum knowledge, especially in Fiqh, aqeedah, Islamic history, & Quranic tajweed.
Demonstrating a high level of relevant curriculum knowledge of ACTFL standards (Arabic)
Being clear about WHAT is being taught, WHY it's being taught, and HOW will it be taught
Using formative and summative assessment information to plan progression for differing needs of learners in the class
Be mindful of the school's policies, aims, objectives, and organizational procedures in such a way as to contribute positively, sensitively, and harmoniously to their achievement;
Take responsibility for the progress of student's in Arabic across the school;
Identify clear teaching and learning objectives specifying how they will be taught and assessed.
Teach according to their educational needs and the school's Arabic curriculum assigned to them.
Plan, prepare and deliver work and lessons that cater to student needs within their class.
Participate in team and staff meetings, coaching, mentoring, and co-coaching to raise standards;
Review teaching and programs of work and participate in training and professional development as a teacher, staying up to date with changes and developments.
Organize the classroom environment and learning resources to create a positive learning environment.
Maintain discipline according to the behavior management policy of the school.
Provide robust Arabic leadership teaching at the school, in association with and supporting colleagues in the delivery of this area and after-school clubs whenever possible;
Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits
Embrace the department focus on student-centered learning, critical thinking, and creativity.
Encourage all students to be actively engaged in their learning and review their progress against the target goals.
Take the responsibility of teaching seriously and show leadership initiatives.
Participate in Quran Competition and Athan Club.

Physical Demand:
Teachers must be able to walk through the classroom and maneuver in tight spaces between desks. Dealing with students can entail kneeling or squatting, stooping, and bending from 50-70 degrees at the waist on an occasional to the frequent basis on a given day. The chalkboard or whiteboard is occasionally too frequently used, requiring grasping the chalk or marker or eraser, reaching, below, or above shoulder height with the dominant upper extremity, and may require trunk or neck rotation to look back at class. is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to the classroom up to 200 feet away.
Environmental Demands:
This position works in various settings, including classrooms and outdoors, and may experience heat or cold extremes and fumes, odors, dust, and the noise level is moderate to loud.
