    American Youth Academy is an Islamic-based private school located in Tampa, Florida; one of the fastest growing communities in the entire country. AYA was established in 1992 and currently serves 650 students grades pre-K through 12, with enrollment increasing every year. One of AYA’s top priorities is to create an environment and structure that allows all students to engage in experiences that prepare them for the future.     Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned:

    Under the supervision of the Head of School, the Director of Teaching and Learning provides direct support and feedback to all instructional and administrative staff on the development of School-wide school improvement efforts and the related programs that support student services grades Pre-K through 12 and all matters related to the development and delivery of instructional programs, assessment, professional development, and use of technology in the school. In this role, we seek an employee who possesses a strong track record developing school leaders and/or teachers using an effective approach. In this role, you will interact with school leaders who span the PK-12 spectrum, and lead programs reflective of diverse pedagogical models.

    Job Type: Full-Time, Salary, Exempt, 12 months.

    Candidate Qualifications:

    Master’s degree in Educational Administration, Curriculum Development, or related field (Doctorate Preferred)

    Minimum of three years as an administrator with curriculum experience and three or more years of Teaching Experience

    Florida Administration/Principal Certification (Preferred)

    Examples of Essential Functions:

    Develops and supervises curriculum coordinators by setting goals, providing regular feedback, and conducting annual performance evaluations.

    Plans, implements, and monitors budgets in all areas of Teaching and Learning.

    Administers and coordinates federal and state grants through communication with the Head of School, Board members, leadership team, and building administration to ensure accountability for use of funds and student learning.

    Provides leadership and support to building administrators and teachers through collaborative planning, professional development, coaching, school improvement planning and regular communication.

    Provides input for implementation of the School vision, including alignment of programs to the vision and support through professional development and resource allocation.

    Remains current on educational research by engaging in professional development activities, professional reading, and peer collaboration.

    Directs the planning and implementation of new curriculum standards and statutes. Promotes system-wide technology integration and organizational efficiency. Works with the Technology Department to integrate technology into the instructional program.

    Provides the organization, leadership and process to organize, create, and develop a system of assessments to measure student achievement growth, and assist teachers and staff with instructional planning, re-teaching, and achievement of mastery.

    Plans, organizes, develops, and implements the communication feedback systems and processes for monitoring and performing educational audits to ensure that curriculum and assessment priorities are being appropriately pursued.

    Plans, develops, and conducts public and community relations programs pertaining to curriculum and assessment planning and development processes.

    Plans, organizes, and participates in the evaluation and selection of textbooks and instructional materials and equipment.

    Supervise the performance of assigned personnel; interview and select employees and recommend transfers, reassignment, termination and disciplinary actions; oversee staff development for vice principals, principals and assigned secretarial staff.

    Communicate with other administrators, personnel and outside organizations to coordinate activities and programs, resolve issues and conflicts and exchange information; receive and respond to parent issues or concerns and make referrals as necessary.

    The Director of Teaching and Learning will lead the school’s program of Professional Learning.

    The Director will collaborate closely with Department Leads in areas that should be well-defined including the formative evaluation of faculty.

    Along with Department Leads, the Director will make recommendations to the Head of School regarding the hiring and retention of teachers.

    The Director will establish programs for the orientation of new teachers.

    The Director will also take the lead in articulating academic policies and procedures to teachers

    Required Knowledge of:

    Principles, practices, trends goals, and objectives of public education; Collaboration and support of innovation and creativity

    Philosophical, educational, fiscal, and legal aspects affecting school curriculum and instruction processes

    Organization, management, planning, and evaluation strategies, techniques, and procedures

    Curriculum and instruction design and delivery systems, including audit and evaluation processes that determine process effectiveness.

    Instructional program forecasting, projecting, auditing, and the managing of a variety of information and data management, storage, retrieval, and dissemination systems.

    Human relationships, conflict resolution strategies, and procedures, and team management building methods and techniques.

    Planning, organization and direction of the operations of elementary schools. School and elementary school organization, operations, policies and objectives.

    Principles and practices of administration, supervision and training. Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures.

    Knowledge of current educational research and best practices for instruction. Research and development strategies, processes, and techniques.

    Ability to provide critical support for the entire academic program and to equip teachers effectively, the Dean of students must be able to:

    Plan, organize, control and direct the operations of the schools, grades K-12.

    Interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

    Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.

    Leadership skills including visioning, active listening, coaching, facilitation, and use of data for decision making.

    Ability to prioritize resources for continuous improvement.

    Ability to work successfully with teachers in the development and revision of K-12 curriculum.

    The ability and confidence to act as the academic leader of the school.

    A deep understanding of how children learn. Thorough knowledge of contemporary pedagogy and instructional practices.

    The ability to train, where necessary, Department Leads in best practices.

    The ability to mentor teachers to develop their pedagogy and content knowledge using coaching plans, lesson demonstrations, and conferences.
