As our deal pipeline and investment portfolio continue to grow, Lewis & Clark Partners - AgriFood is seeking an Analyst to join the team. The right candidate will have significant opportunities for growth and development within the firm, which has a strong track record of promoting from within.

    Lewis & Clark Partners - AgriFood is an investment firm focused on investing in growth stage companies across the agriculture and food ecosystem, with an emphasis on plant science & technology, animal health & nutrition, supply chain efficiency, and food & food technology. The investment team pursues companies that have strong market traction, defensible business models, solid core management teams, with proprietary technology or processes underpinning their core offering.

    The Analyst will work collaboratively with the group’s investment team in all aspects of the deal process from initial review of materials to due diligence, through deal structuring and negotiation, and post-investment portfolio management. With a nimble and flat investment team, we provide a unique opportunity to gain foundational investment experience while identifying, evaluating, and investing in the best growth-stage companies.

    Responsibilities

    • Active involvement in the deal review and transaction execution process, involving a variety of different transaction structures, such as venture, debt, and traditional growth equity investing
    • Construction of initial screening and in-depth investment memoranda, as well as associated preparation and presentation to the group’s Investment Committee
    • Extensive financial modeling to support potential investment opportunities, which include financial statement modeling, market sizing, pro forma capital table modeling, and return waterfalls
    • Quickly develop an understanding of specific sub-sectors and business models within the AgriFood supply chain, as it relates to the due diligence process, and broader firm efforts, such as driving investment theses
    • Structure and address complex problems and questions, using available public and private data sources to inform our decision-making and due diligence process
    • Serve as the lead point of contact with necessary third-party providers during the diligence process, as well as with company management and executive teams
    • Participate in deal sourcing and actively cultivate and manage third-party relationships with industry partners such as investment banks, lenders, and other industry-specific investors
    • Contribute to the Fund’s marketing efforts, which are directed to both our external community, as well as to current and potential future limited partners
    • Limited amount of travel in connection with evaluating new deal opportunities, as well as ongoing portfolio company needs, such as Board meetings, etc.
    • Support senior investment professionals with ongoing portfolio management and company-specific projects and initiatives

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree, with a strong, demonstrated track record of academic achievement; degrees in finance, accounting, or science-related fields, such as biology or chemistry, are preferred
    • One or more years of experience in investment banking, venture capital, private equity, management consulting, or transaction advisory (accounting) is strongly preferred
    • Strong proficiency in using Microsoft Office, particularly in PowerPoint and Excel, with an ability to effectively format and present findings and information
    • Interest in agriculture, food, sustainability, material science, biological science and/ or technology, as well as ties to the St. Louis area or the Midwest are preferred, but not required
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills, as well as strong business writing, with the ability to clearly articulate findings and information in a professional, concise, and effective manner
    • Highly motivated individual, with demonstrated experience as a self-starter, along with strong time management skills and the ability to multi-task at any given time
    • Mature and responsible demeanor, and will serve as a professional representative for Lewis & Clark Partners
